I see the point but nah, if you're SEC, winning the conference is nearly as prestigious as winning the NC.

Yes, but you’d get kicked out of the SEC.

I get it. I think the SEC Championship should be built into the playoff format somehow. Like a 16 team tournament, but the first 2 rounds have 4 teams from each power 4 to determine the winner of the conference. The final 4 would just be the champions of each conference.

Really just a 4 team conference playoff to determine the 4 team NCAA playoff.

If the SEC championship was baked into the playoff, somehow you would be getting the second best team in the SEC knocked out of the playoff in the first week every year

It would make no sense

The sec championship is worthless if a non champ sec team wins the playoffs.

Like 2011 right? Bama sat at home and still somehow made and won the NC game against the SEC Champ.

Your definitely not a bama fan. No way Alabama would ever back down from playing a game.

You definitely are.

How so? The top 4 SEC teams would all have a chance. It probably makes OOC games less important.

ShHhh don't tell lsu fans that. 8 wins and a trip to Atlanta is better than 11 wins.

If you do that, maybe Ole Miss can finally play in that game.

As a Bama grad my only comment is to please take the Bama logo off when you post.

Why even have conferences then?

Kirby Smart didn't plan on playing in the SEC Championship game last season.

If Georgia would have lost that game, it would have knocked Georgia out of the playoff bracket. The CFP is only interested in two loss teams. Ole Miss had a top 12 team and was told to go play in a bowl game.

Going to a 9 game conference schedule and keeping the SEC Championship Game only benefits ESPN.

I find it hard to believe that SEC fans in general are buying Sankey's sellout tactics.

At this point it is all about the money in the eyes of Greg Sankey.

When we go to a 9 game conference schedule, and a team plays in the SEC CG, it will mean that an SEC team will have played in 10 SEC games before the start of the playoffs.

The attrition from injuries and fatigue will reduce the coefficient reliability of an SEC team winning a NATTY by at least 15%.

Yep, get used to the B1G and ACC to be chest pumping every year from here on out.

I wouldn't have thought a team with Natl Title aspirations would back off a challenge. Maybe you should just go straight to the Title game after the regular season? Or just not finish the regular season at all and just wait for the Title game

Alabama could be like Auburn and claim we won the SEC Championship game.

No, but it does highlight what a shitty job Sankey and the current ADs/people in charge are doing.

When the SECCG was introduced, it wasn't to generate more revenue for the conference. It wasn't to have more viewers for ESPN/ABC or anything like that.

It was created for 1 purpose and that was to give the SEC teams a better chance at winning National Championships, and it worked for the most part. It gave the teams an extra great game at the end of the season which could and did give the teams a better chance of being the #1 team.

Now all these stupid fricks give a shite about is generating more revenue, getting those viewers for ESPN and so forth. So the game is no longer helpful to the purpose of winning National Championships.

They've managed to create a playoff format that is so fricking shitty teams are better off playing easy schedules and never playing against good teams. The less good teams you face, the better off you are.

Which is another way to say they've removed 90% of the meaning from the regular season.

I don't think it's a question of backing off a challenge.

The injury potential in a somewhat meaningless game in today's CFP is the bigger issue.

Look at Georgia last year. They lose Beck in the SECCG to injury and then they get smoked by Notre Dame in the playoffs.

I guarantee you they would have rather had Beck in that game than Stockton.

For quite a while there, it looked like the National Championship game was just a second SEC championship game.

I don't know how to fix it, but something is wrong when all the 10-2 SEC teams are hoping they don't go to the SEC title game.

Maybe the easiest way to fix it is just to guarantee that all four participants of the Big 10 and SEC titles games get a playoff spot.

That's because they wouldn't decline a SECCG opportunity.
That's why this conversation is ridiculous....and to rest players by not playing them is a close 2nd in stupidity.
