If he was always so mediocre then why was he OC in the NFL for a decade? Explain that one.
Norv Turner hasn't held a position lower than OC since 1990.
Mike Mularkey has spent one season as anything but an OC or HC since 2000.
The NFL love retreads almost as much as the NBA.

Matt Cavanaugh was an OC for nearly a decade and he was absolutely terrible. The NFL is an old boys' club. There are a lot of mediocre coaches who stick around for a while based on who they know or who they are friends with.

Most objective CFB expert analysts, such as myself, should give this hire praise for the shear fact the guy has been an OC in the NFL for as long as he has.
You just can't get an intellectual conversation going on this board for some reason.
Well this didn't rustle my jimmies.

Exactly. There were a few people that gave an actual unbiased opinion and thought it was a meh type hire. The rest of these fricks just came in to troll and flame. That's why were 8 pages in unfortunately. Oh well. LSU has always had the talent. Now we have a great hire at OC.
Oh and you know it's a good hire when LSU fans like it. We are the most critical fanbase when it comes to coaching

Let the haters hate. This will likely be the best set of coordinators in the SEC

I feel like you're picking out only a couple games that you struggled in and it sticks in your head. I remember the Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virgina, Ole Miss, and Auburn games you didn't have a whole lot of trouble putting it in the endzone. Georgia I understand, until you had a spark plug before half y'all looked dead in water.
I've watched every LSU game for the last decade, you have not. The 2011 team had a just above terrible offense. 86th is flat out awful for a team that went to the NCG. Any team can score points when they get the ball on the opposing side of the field so often or when special teams scores or sets you up well nearly all the time. But that doesn't make an offense competent. The offense that year was usually horrendous. I cant believe people forget how bad that offense was. 86th in the country doesn't lie.
quote:
I understand your defense and special teams set you up a lot, which is part of the reason your total offense numbers were so low
Yes they did, but it also doesn't help when the offense goes 3 and out over 50% of the time which it did, either. The offense was bad, that's why it was 86th in the country.

Incidentally, I am so honored that I am sigquoted... even though the quote is obvious.
And I would be really psyched if I were an LSU fan. Gene Stallings once said about Alabama that he was thankful that they saw that he was a good coach despite his win-loss record. That clearly translated to the field.
Les Miles gives people the fuel to think they would be a better coach than he is, or that they would make better decisions, but the fact is that at the end of the day, his teams are incredibly successful and have been. He may be slow to make changes, but when he makes the changes, they have turned out REALLY well.

One of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen on this board. This isn't the frickin' Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce we're talking about where it's all about "who you know". The NFL is a business and they fire and hire multiple coaches every year. You don't get tenure like a high school coach.

Rice averages 1 (one) carry more per game after he left.
That's mainly due to emergence of Bernard Pierce. He took away some of Rice's carries later on in the season. The Ravens were definitely more committed to running the ball with Caldwell than they were with Cameron.

Wait for it.....
Wait for it....
Boom bitch.
If riding can newton to a national championship counts than so does the ravens riding Cameron's offense.. Either way. Cameron, despite getting let go, is getting a SB ring bc they franchise recognizes that he got them there.

Lots of LSU fans gonna be mad when they see minimal change to the offense.
It's a good hire from a publicity standpoint though.
But lets see gator's reaction when UF hired Charlie Weis away from Kansas City
quote:
If true, Champ might have hit a home run. God awful HC, but he knows his offense.
quote:
Charlie Weis recruited offensive weapons like crazy at ND. His defensive recruiting was shabby, but his offensive recruits were pretty solid. Give him the Florida recruiting base and he will tear it up.
Interesting that most people in that thread gave credit to Florida for making a great hire and that the rest of the SEC was fricked. LSU hires a longtime NFL OC with productive offenses and its a meh hire.

So you recall that we were losing until Mathieu saves our asses?
What about the next 34 points? We couldn't stop you.

You probably remember how we caused multiple turnovers on special teams?
You may not remember you had close to 400 yards of total offense.
quote:
Defense scored on Ole Miss' first possession.
And the offense had 458 yards.
quote:
Mathieu's INT, Claiborne's return. Enough said.
Mathieu's INT only set up 1 TD and Morris' return was late in the game.
I swear LSU fan's memories are masochistic. You're downplaying one of the best years in your program's history.
