I'm selling his arse before the game even starts. He's not mobile enough to protect himself. He throws short to intermediate OK but the long ball is inaccurate -and he's not good enough to make more than one read before the rush gets to him. Alabama's D will destroy him. LSUs whole offense will be played within 5 or 6 yards of the LOS. LSUs D will play lights out but LSUs O will die an ugly humiliating death. It's a 50-50 shot Etling ends up in the hospital. Over/Under on TOs is 4 and sacks is 9.

Sell, IMHO. Wouldn't surprised if he gets knocked out early. He doesn't protect himself well enough.

Alabama's defense is really good, but 9 sacks is a stupid line.

Etling has the best pocket presence I've seen in a long time. Even Mett wouldn't move in the pocket. He would make his throw, take the hit, and get back up. Etling's awareness and ability to take the couple steps that buy you that half second is the thing that gives me more confidence about our passing game than I've had since 2013.

Our WRs are fast, and they will get open. As will our TEs and RBs. The question is can our OL give Etling enough time to find them. It's a big if, but it's possible.

That's the difference in the teams right now. Nobody can run on Bama and LSU doesn't pass protect well enough to hold up.

Bama's offensive line has come together well and is the best Bama O-line in the last 4 season. They will get some push because LSU is not great at the DT spot.

LSU defense and Kiffins horrible red zone play calling will keep it close though.

OP...

You did a really good job of describing Alabama's offense.

quote:

He throws short to intermediate OK but the long ball is inaccurate

quote:

LSUs whole offense will be played within 5 or 6 yards of the LOS.
(change LSU to Bama)

^^^Perfect assessment of Jalen Hurts. He is averaging 4.2 YPA on passes completed. Whereas his average YPA on incompletions is 13.2.

I would buy

him health insurance.

He got rocked a few times against Ole Miss. I worry about him against Bama.

idk

I didn't think that I was impressed, but I watched that youtube video of all of his passes against OM and I thought that it was somewhat impressive. It was just OM, but still, he's got a little bit of moxy.

The bottomline is that if LSU's oline gets overran, then it will be a long night for him.

Bama gives up more sacks than LSU. They are excellent in run blocking. Hurts has mediocre pocket presence when he's actually trying to pass and gets in trouble.

your thread title implies etling is the problem but your post suggests its the offensive line.

Etling is going to have to become SUPERMAN just to survive this game uninjured. I'd put the odds of him getting injured at betterthan 50-50 for a thousand reasons but mostly because Alabama's D is the most destructive force in college football.
