That's really all OP was wanting everyone to acknowledge in this thread.

He is a good coach. He's also a total scumbag and that's the point barners don't want to admit.

I have yet to see the scumbag side to Pearl while at AU. I "thought" he was slimy when he was at UT and then everytime he talked I liked him. He is definitely a salesman but I think losing his UT job and getting a second chance has changed him. Not hard to see why he gets good players, just look at the way we lets guys play in his system. Would you rather play for him or freaking Mike White or Frank Martin because they are "good" guys?

You truly have no idea what kind of man Bruce Pearl is.

Pearl is not a scumbag now. Pearl is good for AU and good for SEC MBB.

TN has just as shitty of a basketball program before Pearl arrived. TN may have been even worse than Auburn before he arrived

They banned themselves from the postseason just last year. One of his coaches barely avoided prison. Yeah, I dont buy it.

Kinda surprising he's already eclipsed his total wins at Tennessee here at Auburn

There is no denying Pearl is an excellent coach.

Why don’t you run a 10 year before BP analysis for each and then let me know how dumb your comment is?

The lowest amount of SEC wins Buzz Peterson had was 6. The highest amount of SEC sins Tony Barbee had was 6.

LOL what. Not even close. They may have been as bad in the early 90s under Houston, but they were middling under Buzz. They weren't terrible. And they'd been good under Jerry Green a few years prior. Buzz went 7-9, 9-7, 7-9, 6-10 in the SEC. He also left Pearl some really good players. CJ Watson was a NBA point guard and Chris Lofton is the greatest 3PT shooter in SEC history. On top of that you had Wingate, Bradshaw and a few others who contributed immediately.

I mean hell, just look at Pearl's first 2 years at both places

Tennessee
2006 : 22-8, SEC Champ, #2 NCAAT Seed
2007 : 24-11, #5 NCAAT Seed

Auburn
2015 : 15-20
2016 : 11-20

Not that it really matters, because honestly who cares, but in what world is this anywhere close to being the case. Some just don’t remember how putrid AU basketball was before Pearl arrived..

I would not say good. Above average maybe.

Very similar to Barnes actually. Barnes, like Green, will probably be run off/fired/forced to retire in the midst of an NCAA Tourney streak.

All things considered I'd say his accomplishments were pretty good. Those teams were undisciplined and you couldn't trust them, but he truly did take over a situation somewhat similar to what Pearl did at Auburn. Tennessee had been to what, 1 NCAA Tournament since like 1980 when Green took over? Something like 1 winning season in the previous 8 or something.

He went to the NCAAT all 4 years and won a conference title. He did get to do it with Crazy Kevin O'Neill's players, though
