Good for Oklahoma. Every taxpayer funded university should do the same.

Imguessing thst since OK has numerous military installations, some units may have needed a local pool of translators to recruit from - contractors, civil service, and for active duty.

I'm not sure what Piano pedagogy is, but if it involves a high level of playing piano, they will probably have a job.

Plant biology was the only one that sounded bad, but it could be that it's essentially folded into something else.

Keep cutting. Mizzou should cut more than they did.

Geography programs typically include things like Human Geography (countries, cultures, religions, languages, etc) and Historical Geography (the long-term aspects of those things, inclusing change over time), which are more human-oriented. These only require basic math.

More developed programs also include Geographic Information Systems, Mapping Sciences, Aerial and Satellite Imagery, and Climatology, which are more data and skills-oriented. These require more advanced math and stats.

Thus, separate B.A. and B.S. degrees in Geography.

That's an interesting list of programs being cut.

The only ones I'd question would be:

• Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology
• Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders
• Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences

Unless the "plant biology" is covered by other similar degrees (botany/horticulture), that's a real field of work that has real world job applications.

Same goes for the last two. Rehabilitation sciences are what PT's and OT's often have for a degree. Communication sciences and disorders are speech therapists or audiologists. I can see cutting those programs if they're overlapping with other degrees available, but if not it is a bit of a hole in what the college is offering.

Could be paired with something like a degree in International Business.

My roommate in college had a girlfriend that had a roommate who was the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants. She was majoring in International Business. She spoke both English and Vietnamese fluently. She could have went easy and let her second language classes be Vietnamese.

Nope, she chose Mandarin Chinese.

Good for OU. 75% of the degrees colleges give out these days are completely worthless.

A lot of the language courses are done on the web now

AI is going to be doing almost all of translating very soon. OU did cut mostly fluff. This looks like a pre mass AI evaluation, pretty smart on their part.

I know this is likely sarcasm but it did have me wondering the percentage of TD posters that actually have a degree or even people with 'some college'.

Are colleges and universities supposed to keep operating programs that aren't financially viable?
Hopefully they are targeting programs that graduates of the programs find it difficult to find a decent job.

Swing and a miss OP. Can think of a dozen worthless degrees at Texas A&M, Texas, etc.,, that are unemployable. Woke type shite.

Good for OU. They definitely won’t be the last one to cut some of that shite.

The simple-minded Midzouvian couldn't post a link because that means you'd see the University is simply eliminating trash, and that didn't fit his narrative.

Physical Therapy is now a Doctoral level degree nation wide... and Occupational Therapy is now making that move.

You are eligible to apply to these Doctoral programs after getting a bachelor's degree.

There is really no market for a Masters in Rehabilitation. No reason to offer this anymore.

I'm not up on SLP stuff. But I bet it is the same deal.
