Basically, the gist of it is that there are two main types of NIL money.

1 - Collective money from boosters funded by school donors.

2 - True endorsement/branding deals that come directly from a company rather than through a collective.

Bowers basically said that anything coming through the collectives for UGA should go to other players. He'll just stick with direct endorsements. This is basically passing money to other UGA players/recruits rather than taking it himself.

I wonder how much he gets from Associated Credit Union. It plays before every episode of Chuck Oliver's podcast.

A "good character" gesture, and probably a smart move on his behalf.

Probably not a huge downside for him.

Yeah, it's going to likely cost him a few hundred thousand dollars in NIL money... but he's probably going to make over a million from direct endorsements anyway and he's likely insured pretty heavily against injury so he'll either get a big contract or an injury settlement with regards to what happens after this upcoming season.

A few hundred thousand dollars for us is a big deal. But he's likely already made more than a million and there's no way he doesn't end up with at least 5 million more in the absolute worst case scenario after this year is done.

It's a non-greedy move, but also not like he's passing up a life changing payday.

Yep. The PR a move like that'll buy will actually pad the commercial "paydays" he'll eventually get as a result of his popularity, plus his Georgia teammates will definitely appreciate it.

That's nice of him, but isn't he from the Napa Valley? Not a lot of people hurting for money out that way.

I think the takeaway is that he's the only "superstar" on the team at the moment, if anyone is deserving of collective money, it's him, in jersey sales and whatnot, and he's passing on it, for "real" NIL.

No matter how much you hate Georgia or how you want to spin this in some kind of negative light, this is a good story for all of college football.

Maybe Bowers should mentor Stetson III on character and image.

Stetson III is a 60 year old pharmacist in south Georgia.

He very likely wants to control his NIL. Collectives want things from you in return. This lets him control his name, image, and likeness in ways that a player taking money from certain collectives (and it depends on how things are structured) won't be able to do.

I think in the future your major prospects will avoid any group based NIL deals because they're signing over blanket rights. We will also likely see at least one or two NIL scandals where a future NFL or NBA superstar deeply regrets an NIL he signed coming out of HS. Some of these kids are going to give away more than they realize to the wrong individual or collective. Where those rights end up falling could cost them a lifetime of pain.

The fact that schools can't set these things up or have much direct say means shady arse boosters or one pretending to be will con someone.

Dylan Crews returned his baseball scholarship, such as it was, as his NIL money covered those costs. His parents have also purchased 4 season tickets for use by kids with disabilities & their parents. There are a lot of good kids in college sports but only the arseholes get their names in the media.
