Probably not a huge downside for him.

Yeah, it's going to likely cost him a few hundred thousand dollars in NIL money... but he's probably going to make over a million from direct endorsements anyway and he's likely insured pretty heavily against injury so he'll either get a big contract or an injury settlement with regards to what happens after this upcoming season.

A few hundred thousand dollars for us is a big deal. But he's likely already made more than a million and there's no way he doesn't end up with at least 5 million more in the absolute worst case scenario after this year is done.

It's a non-greedy move, but also not like he's passing up a life changing payday.

I don't think you understand the UGA collective.

I'd guess it is about $5k/month. And I'd guess all scholarship and PWO players get it.

Bowers will be done January 2024. So he is giving up about $65,000. Maybe it can go to walk ons.

I agree that he is getting over $1M/yr in endorsements. And I agree that he is heavily insured for injury.

But I don't agree that he ends up with $5M. He is going to be a 3 year player at UGA. He didn't get $1M his freshman and sophomore seasons (or at least he didn't get over $1M his sophomore season as of September 2022). He's likely going to finish between $2M and $3M before he is done at UGA.

Good Lord. Grow up. And, no, his parents do not come from money, by any means. This is a thread about 2 good guys in college sports & no surprise, negatators jump out of the bushes.

Dude comes from Napa, his family clearly has a good bit of money. It’s a nice gesture to let his teammates, who might not come from such a situation, get a little more.

Good for him but I think if I understand correctly that at Alabama the collective gives all the players an equal amount. What you get from endorsements is between the player and his agent.

Bowers basically said that anything coming through the collectives for UGA should go to other players. He'll just stick with direct endorsements. This is basically passing money to other UGA players/recruits rather than taking it himself.

Bowers is worth waaaaay more than whatever the collective money pays.

Dude is a beast.

I could be totally wrong but if I'm understanding it correctly the "collective" money is spread out evenly amongst student athletes. If that's the case there is no way there is a "few hundreds thousand dollars" being spread around to each athlete.

That said, regardless of the amount, still a good gesture to help out the guys who don't have the notoriety to go on it alone like he does.
