Some Louisville guy with a haircut won it.

You need to do some research on "that Louisville guy".

Rooker deserved it. Only second player in SEC history to win triple crown.

I voted for the Louisville guy despite having no knowledge of anything about this award.

It was a toss up between McKay and Rooker.

Oh, that's one hell of a reason

Thank you WEagle for your non support of Rooker. He had the 2nd best Season in SEC baseball history (you can actually make a case that it was the best) and that should have been enough to win the Golden Spikes Award.
Dude at Louisville (Louie Ville) was good but I think Rooker earned it this year.

rookers 27.00 ERA probly didnt help him much

Meh I'm ok with it. Rooker' bat disappeared the last month of the season and that is when we needed it the most. McKay was in Omaha. The right guy won it despite having a horrible douchebag haircut.

His 74 mph fastball has wicked movement

quote:Yeah - couldn't argue with either winning it but I figured McKay would win. He had a hell of a year going 2 way. Don't like his hair but that shouldn't play into it. Proud of Rooker and all that he did and how he represented MSU, but I am not surprised he didn't win.

the best season for a position player in the BBCOR era, I'll give you that.

I'm still not over Micah Owings getting snubbed in 05. He put up numbers like the Louisville guy this year and didn't even make the it as a finalist

Do you even research bro?

Well if you consider Palmeiro's 1984 the best (Triple Crown) in the SEC.
BA .415
HR 29
RBI 94
Now I know individually players have exceeded one of those categories in a given year. But overall that has to be the best collective season by an individual.
Rooker's season this year:
BA .387
HR 23
RBI 82
Also led the league in hits, OBP, Slugging %, Total Bases, doubles (30),
Top 5 in runs scored, SB's, BB's.
Defensively played 1B all year and made one error. .998 fielding %.
Doubtful that we will see a season like this again in our lifetime in the SEC.
So that is why I said second best but maybe best ever although it is hard to compare different eras.

Rooker had a better batting avg .386 compared to .341
His slugging % was far better. 810 to 659
He had more homers by 6
He had 82 Rbi compared to 57
However, he pitched 1/3 of an inning lol and gave up a run on a double. One hit gave him an ERA of 27.00.
The dude from Louisville was a real pitcher and I think they gave more credit to that.

Does college have their own version of the Hank Aaron award for best hitter? Sounds like Rooker would be a shoo-in for that.
