listen, if you want a respectable experience go to a game in Athens. auburn and alabama are the epitome of redneckery.

lsu is half decent but still not in comparison to the beauty of Athens.

any team in Mississippi is about as redneck as any in Alabama just not quite as bad.

don't waste money going to a Tennessee game. it'll be a blow out.

Florida? if you can tolerate the gator chomps then go ahead. i personally can not. just be warned of the mullets.

Missouri? might fit in. bunch of Yankees as yourself

have anymore questions?

Look at it this way. Are you coming down for just the weekend or are you looking to see other stuff on your trip? Flying or driving? If you are driving, it makes sense to do USC and Charleston.

If you want to add sightseeing, then combine LSU/NOLA or USC/Charleston. Maybe UF/Orlando if you want to see the mouse.

Weather is an issue. Anywhere in the SEC will be brutally hot in September. Not saying don’t do it. Just be prepared.

Pick a big game. UGA/USC; UGA/Auburn; LSU/Florida;etc. Early season can be safer as the hyped up atmosphere can tail off if the season is disappointing.

Root for the home team and wear their colors. Do not wear a jersey.

The answer is tDSOR.

That is, if you want to see Auburn get their shite pushed in.

My recommendation depends on what you are wanting to experience.

If you just want to see what gameday is like at a big-time SEC matchup, then LSU-Alabama or LSU-Georgia would probably get my vote. If LSU should end up tanking early in the season, then Georgia-Auburn could be a decent backup plan.

If you want to get a true feel for what college football means in the South, then the Iron Bowl should be your pick.

--if you want the quintessential, sec football rivalry experience, it's the iron bowl. alabama/auburn is the kind of game that has defined the sec. does not matter what either team's records are/the fans will be passionate, weird things always happen in the game. it's in t'town this year, tailgating is good to great, fans of both teams will welcome you to their tailgates and vie to show you the best southern hospitality. very nice campus with "the strip," home of many bars/restaurants/shops right by the stadium. the stadium is in the heart of the campus, you can easily walk around and see everything before the game.

if you have a few days, head down to orange beach, alabama or the 30-A area in florida.

--alabama/lsu in baton rouge. excellent tailgating. the campus is kind of spread out with some really pretty areas. the lsu fans will be incredibly amped up for the game & very welcoming.

if you have a few days, new orleans is a great destination for upscale dining (also incredible budget, local food),fab history, excellent (but expensive antiquing),an outstanding art museum, one of my favorite cities in the world.

Don’t mention our Civil War monuments or the outcome of the war and you will be treated as family.

If you wanna witness a big upset early in the season as well as experience the most unique tailgating in the country come to SC for the SC vs UGA game the second week of the season

May be the best bet. Both teams will be unproven and USC campus will be jacked for this game. Not as far of a trip from Boston. Only down side is it could be blazing hot.

Hey bud , I have been to Florida’s campus. State is much nicer, more beautiful and much better manicured. People are friendly and tailgating is as good/better as anywhere else.

He would have a great time there for a weekend. :)

This. It is also Saturday after Thanksgiving. We will probably bring our MH to have Thanksgiving there, as will many others. Rent a MH and I will hook you up with a place to park it a couple of blocks from downtown, adjacent to the old state Capitol grounds. Book a place to stay early, as Tuscaloosa doesn’t have a whole lot of rooms if you don’t do the MH thing. Birmingham is an hour away and the Civil Rights museum/16th Ave Church area is a must. Or as someone else mentioned, go down to Orange Beach first, or fly to ATL and spend time there. Since it is Thanksgiving, book flights early.
The tickets are going to cost you, get them now. It doesn’t matter how good either one is, this is a slug fest and a game many have never experienced and want to. Very rarely is it a blowout. Actually any of the great rivalry games are going to cost you, but it will be worth it.
You are welcome to traditional southern Thanksgiving with us. I am an excellent southern cook.
Weather should be temperate. I would not go to a game before October, and maybe not before mid October as southern heat and humidity is no joke, it is brutal.
