Bo ran over, ran around , out ran, and ran through. Bo did more with less . Herschel best quality was his size and stamina. Very much like Earl Campbell. Good but totally different styles.
You're talking 5 pounds difference in weight and an inch or two in height if previous posts are correct.

We enjoyed some great RB's that 10 year period including 3 of the top RB's in SEC history in Herschel, Bo, and Emmitt in an overlapping span of 5 years.
Not to mention some SEC and NFL greats that came out of that period such as Jams Brooks, Neal Anderson, John L. Williams, James Jones, Lionel Train. Then by the mid-90's we had the likes of Kevin Faulk, Fred Taylor, Shaun Alexander.
1980-82 - Herschel
1982-85 - Bo Knows, Hilliard
1985-88 - Humphrey
1987-89 - Emmitt
1990-92 - Hearst
1990-93 - Rhett

Herschel then. Herschel now. Herschel in whatever dystopian future awaits.

Herschel Walker by a large margin.

So you are saying that Bo wasnt that much better than the other backs............
Again, Coach was a dumbass to waste opportunities for Bo to get the ball. Wishbone long dead, I Formation still being used....
Dooley was smart enough to run student body left and student body right. Dye was apparently not smart enough to run such a complex system and wasted a beyond generational talent.
The truth of it all is they are both in a league of their own... Who is faster, probably depended on who was banged up at any given moment, both put on a show. Herschel was more dependable as it pertained to not getting hurt. Bo's Allstar home run is still something to behold.
Frankly you are talking about two of the best three backs ever in the Conference with Emmitt being the third.

No. I'm replying to your comment that Bo was the only running back in that backfield and I was enlightening you but telling you that all 3 were NFL running backs.
I didn't say a word about formations and coaching. But to imply that he wasn't sharing the backfield with other quality backs is asinine.

You still don't get it, only a dumbass wastes opportunities for Bo to get the ball on far from generational talent whether they played in the NFL or not.
You build your team around your strength and in that generation, it was the tailback.

Once again, I wasn’t debating formations or carries. I was simply telling you that there were 4 NFL backs in that backfield.

I am simply telling you Bo is the only house hold name. Plenty of mediocre running backs make the nfl.

I suppose he is to people who are too young or don't have a clue about SEC Football history.

No mediocre running backs make the NFL. If you make it to the NFL, you are the best of the best.

FIFY.
Clearly this conversation isn't going anywhere, so I'm out. Keep being a troll. I'll find somebody who can have a reasonable conversation without being a douche canoe.

Keep being a fool. We had other backs as well, we were smart enough to sit them and let Herschel take over....
The fact that Auburn coaches were too dumb to fully use Bo, is not a Herschel issue.

Herschel Walker was the best RB in the history of the SEC. period.

Ask the pro-HOF in Canton, actually, he did.

No disrespect to Hershel but Bo Jackson by a good margin. It’s like comparing Earl Campbell to George Rogers. They may have seemed similar to some at one point but they’re not that close in reality.

Bo will forever be the best running back to ever live.

Both great backs that were asked to do different things. Herschel was asked to literally carry his team, and he did. Understand, he ran 35-40 times a game when every body in the stadium knew he was getting the ball. His QBs were Buck Belue and John Lasting (which means very little passing threat).
My favorite Herschel stat: never lost an SEC game.

Both were absolutely phenomenal, freak athletes, who were blessed with the ability to do things athletically that very few if any ever had before. The incessant need to place one above the other by football fans only serves to diminish both of their incredible achievements on the field of play.
It should be enough for anyone to say that they both, along with Darren McFadden in my homer opinion, were to this point the greatest college running backs to ever play the game.

Darren McFadden’s 1,000-yard season has been virtually worthless by Matthew Conner 5 years ago Follow @RockyMntRaider Tweet Share x Comment Despite rushing for what is certain to be over 1,000 yards in 2015, Darren McFadden has added little substance to the Dallas Cowboys’ offense. For only the second time in his 8-year NFL career, Dallas Cowboys’ running back Darren McFadden will break the 1,000 yards rushing mark once he gains a mere three yards in the season finale. The 1,000-yard mark has long been the standard used to determine a quality season from a running back but McFadden’s 1,000-yard season in 2015 must be considered one of the least impactful of such campaigns in Cowboys’ history. To say that Cowboys’ fans have been spoiled at the running back position is like saying George Clooney has been spoiled at the girlfriend position. The franchise that has featured running backs like Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith, Hershel Walker, Calvin Hill and DeMarco Murray has come to expect production from the running back as a God-given right.
As directly as you can compare them, Emmitt and Herschel were far superior to McFadden and he doesn't belong in the same breath as those two.
