Auburn is screwed if the FBI is getting statement from these various sources we keep hearing about. Not to mention the Newtons who would face a minimum 2 years in prison if they are caught lying. The stakes are just too high to play Cam Newton unless the NCAA calls off the dogs but they won't. If these aligatons are true then Auburn is looking at lost scholarships, possible exclusion from telivised games, and loss of bowl eligibility. Not to mention forfeiting all there games this season. This really is horrible for the SEC and college football. Cecil Newton may have also cost his son millions in the draft even though I think he still goes round 1.

Aubbie : OK well this is just rumors, until I hear it from the Pope with one hand on the bible it can't be taken seriously.
LOL, Honestly this really sucks, I want LSU in the SECCG as bad as anyone but I like watching the kid play and something like this ruins the legend we are watching develop.

As a Bama fan, I can attest that Derrick Thomas and Fernando Bryant both were driving high dollar European luxury cars their last year in Tuscaloosa. Those payments were made by somebody, and I'm guessing it wasn't them.
Why? Because they were black? So many "fans" assume if a black player drives a nice car he must be receiving extra benefits. Usually aubs are the first to try this bit.
Anyway, As far as DT goes, it was well known to actual Bama fans Derrick's car was paid for by his late Father's veterans benefits. He was shot down and killed during the VietNam war. Even Bill Curry commented on it at the time.

everyone assumes that every athlete is a broke kid from a broken home.

Stereotype maybe?? You're correct.

You don't have to be broke for a "high-priced European luxury car" to be beyond your means.
But that is most definetly a fair stereotype where black athletes are concerened. Yes, some stereotypes are perfectly reasonable.

Get the frick out of here with this lame bullshite. I always want what is best for LSU and, quite frankly, what is bad for Auburn is good for LSU right now. So I say screw 'em.

Yes, some stereotypes are perfectly reasonable.
They are usually accurate. FACT.
If stereotypes were usually inaccurate, they would be useless and would not exist.

This is not good for the SEC.

I have a feeling the SEC may be starting it's own demise ... remember the Southwest Conference? Rampant cheating, teams reporting other teams, etc. The result was "no more Southwest Conference". I think 3 teams are currently under investigation, and now it's not looking good for 2 more. And of course Bama is constantly being looked at (

Nah the SEC has been cheating for as longer than i've been alive, i doubt auburn getting set up by MSU would do the conference in.

Absolutely worst case scenario...with coaches that have been around less than 2 years....several of them and some boosters all conspired to buy Cam. If that happened, let's kick them the hell out, go on probation, and move on. AU hasn't had any trouble since 1992.....18 years. I wouldn't call that a dirty program.
Either way, Benedict Arnold, why don't you just go on ahead and get the frick out?

Well, I was gonna say you could put a script A next to your name and become one of the good guys, but I guess this pretty much squelches that.

the Southwest Conference?
The Southwest Conference was a doomed venture regardless of the cheating scandals. A conference with schools from only one state (after Arkansas left) could not survive financially given the importance of attracting TV revenue. Even had Arkansas stayed, it ws still doomed. The Southwest Conference was quickly becoming irrelevant because no one outside of Texas except a few out-of-state alums was going to watch games on TV. UT might draw a more national interest, but it couldn't carry the conference alone. The cheating scandals may have caused the disintegration to accelerate, but the handwriting was on the wall already with the increasing importance of television markets.
Certainly a major cheating scandal is a bad thing for the entire conference, but given the overall financial health of the conference, I don't think it will cause the demise of the conference. The Southwest Conference experience is not apt. It wasn't cheating that doomed that conference, it was lack of TV draw and lack of TV revenue.

The confirmations of the story get stronger and stronger and come from more respected people everyday that this drags on.
I can now foresee a scenario where AU sits Cam within the next week - possibly before the Bama game. Although, if I were Chizik, I'd play the crap out of Cam and win the trophy and worry about this later.
NCAA may not take as long on this as they have in the past, which could be great for LSU.

Without Cam, AU is a mediocre team. . .and that is being very nice.
I agree they probably arent as good, but the truth is, we really have no idea how good they are becuase we havent seen them without Cam this year.

The SMU debacle was old news when the SWC imploded. The only major violator near the rime of the demise of the SWC was Texas A&M and they were hardly the lynchpin of the conference. The Aggies haven't won a title since 1939 for Zeus's sake.
The other poster was correct, the SWC died because you can't have an entire conference in one state.

That might depend on the nature of what Chizik and company know. If they know that Newton is ineligible or very likely to be, they are also gambling with their own jobs, not just the risk of having to forfeit games and a championship.
That said, I would think that if Auburn chooses to play Cam, they have a pretty high level of confidence that Auburn hasn't done anything that will cause serious consequences to the careers of the decision makers. That doesn't mean that Cam won't ultimately be declared ineligible or that Auburn might forfeit games, but it would be a strong indicator that Auburn doesn't believe that there is the kind of involvement by Auburn itself that would lead to harsh penalities and loss of jobs by those who are making decisions on this at Auburn.
