Big 8 + Arkansas + texas + Texas A&M + TCU

Would have made the best Big 12

With only 3 votes it tames texas from the start.

Four votes from the Texas schools weren't enough to reach the 9 votes (75 percent) required to change rules and regulations. I'm assuming you mean conference headquarters and things like that.

The four votes could stop a vote from reaching the necessary majority for proposals, but they weren't enough to change existing rules and regulations, either.

Well eat a whole bag of d*cks, cause we ain’t going anywhere! Two East titles since we came over and they won’t be the last! Had Pinkel not had to retire because of cancer, and us having to start over with a new coach and a new system we would already have another! See you in a few weeks puddin!

Correct, NCAA was HQ'd in Big 8 country, if the B12 kept thing there too I think the B12 is 2nd best conference behind the SEC and pisses off both B1G and PAC. NCAA probably never moves to IN.

KSU
KU = basketball and AAU
OSU
OU = football
Utx = football + baseball + AAU
TAMU = football + AAU
CU = AAU
UNL = AAU + football
UA = football + basketball
TCU = private school for FOIA exclusion
ISU = AAU
MU = AAU

Big 12 stats
8 state footprint (AR / CO / IA / KS / MO / NE / OK / TX)
2 basketball school KU + UA
4 football schools OU + UNL + Utx + UA
7 AAU schools

Lots of rivalries in multiple sports

To this day, I never understood why the Big 8 invited four Texas schools instead of just inviting Texas and Texas A&M. Baylor and Texas Tech are essentially dead weight. They don’t bring new markets and they didn’t have particularly great football or basketball programs. Plus adding four Texas schools gave Texas way too much power which ultimately caused the disintegration of the conference.

In 1996 (when this all went down):

Governor: Ann Richards (Baylor grad)
Lt. Gov.: Bob Bullock (Texas Tech undergrad, Baylor Law)

Clear now?

Nope, B1G are academic snobs and Morgantown has no chance at AAU membership

I’m not even sure they can spell AAU.

Imagine Alabama and Georgia playing every year....
imagine if Georgia didn't run and hide from Alabama between 1966-91.

26 damn years and y'all only played 8 games. don't come on here whining about wanting to play Alabama more and can't because of the 1992 expansion.

my guess is that the SEC makes much more money with the expansion, especially with A&M, than would be the case had it not happened, and money is always the bottom line consideration.

1. The Death of the Southwest Conference

Yes, I graduated from SMU

Yes, we cheated and we were rightfully punished for it.

But the SWC was one of the great all time conferences.

Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota - they belong together.
-
Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona - they belong together.

Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma - they belong together .

Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi belong together. Hell, take Arkansas - it actually makes sense.

But Texas is it's own region with it's own personality, and it had it's own conference.

And watching schools all go their own way is like watching a divorce happen, and everyone going to four Christmas's, even if you helped cause it. It ain't fun

All change isn't good.
