Big Ten could be expanding with Oregon, UW, Stanford, and Cal - FSU planning move from ACC

If the Big Ten is looking to already go beyond 16, then it likely means this a response to expected SEC growth beyond Texas and Oklahoma.
Adding 4 more PAC-12 schools also most likely limits the Big Ten from scooping up any ACC teams - meaning Florida State, Clemson, Duke, UNC, Georgia Tech, etc, would be there for the SEC to take.
Big Ten statement:
Another update from McMurphy. Big Ten could expand to 20 here very soon.
Florida State also looks to be gone:

But the South Carloina guy told me FSU and Clemson would be added by Tuesday.

I don't think the SEC is going to try to match numbers with the Big 10.
The SEC will always keep their eyes open for expansion targets that will make more money for the SEC. But they have a different set up than the Big 10 does, who owns their own network.
They're selling their content to networks instead, so the reality is that instead of replacing non-football content with more football games (what the Big 10 gets by adding content), they'd instead be selling to ESPN to replace a ACC game of content with a team like Clemson with a SEC game.
While that might be worth a little bit more to ESPN, it's not enough for all 16 SEC teams to make more, while the same move might cover the split for the Big 10 because they're replacing some show about field hockey with college football.
Expansion is only going to happen for the SEC if all the current teams make more money a year after expansion. And the reality is that other than ND, there really isn't a team that could provide that for the SEC.
Maybe if the SEC actually splits from ESPN and creates their own network, it might happen. But not until then.

Let them water down their league.
We don't need to add anyone else.

Sankey is getting cucked by the big10 commissioner. Wish we still had Slive.

i'll take clemson and fsu. probably could get them at a discount if the big ten is off the table.

Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Cal and Stanford don’t really add anything to the conference athletically. They’re just another couple of Northwesterns.

Big 10 was always going to add Oregon and Washington with the addition of USC and UCLA. SEC has no reason to add anyone right now.

20 members is really 2 conferences. Might was well have 2 conf championship games (West and East) and the winner of each go to the playoffs.
ETA: and basketball only has 18 conference games.

They're gonna add Oregon, Washington, FSU, and Clemson is how, while we are sitting here doing nothing.

we need to just hold our water for a bit.
There is no benefit for the SEC going that far westward and any presumable future target is in the ACC, possessing a large GOR.
Big Ten grabbing teams out west... I think scheduling wise, well beyond football, is an absolute nightmare. Logistics would absolutely suck for all schools.

Pretty soon the SEC will just be a name only.
It will be 20 + teams with some sort of NFL schedule model and the SEC commish will just oversee it.
You could see divisions within the SEC where you play your division and rotate other divisions and top teams will form the playoff bracket.
The SEC will break apart the ACC.

I don't think Florida State and Clemson would make the most sense for the SEC. Solid football programs, but the SEC doesn't really need to bolster its football prowess at this point. They don't bring anything to the table in basketball. And most importantly, they're in small media markets.
Now consider adding the following four schools to the SEC: Miami, Georgia Tech, Duke, and UNC. None of these programs are going to bring much to football (which, again, isn't really needed). The SEC would get a massive boost in basketball with Duke and UNC, and would have one of the most coveted rivalries in all of college sports.
But more importantly, look at the major media markets that the SEC adds with those schools: Miami, Atlanta, and Raleigh-Durham. The SEC suddenly becomes a significantly stronger basketball conference and captures three of the largest TV markets in the country.
Florida State and Clemson can't offer that.

FSU and Clemson aren't going to the B10 and they never were. If anyone from the ACC goes to the B10 it will be Miami, Duke, UNC, and/or UVA. All those schools fit the B10 profile. But, I don't think ESPN will let the ACC disintegrate without trying to funnel the most valuable ACC assets to the SEC first.

I don’t want to add either BUT they offer great matchups that will bring in viewers.
