Showing "horns down" in a game with Texas will no longer be an automatic penalty.

SECRant related because some people here still want that cancer in this conference.

Yahoo Sports

quote:

Opponents of Texas may be able to get away with flashing the “Horns Down” sign without receiving a 15-yard penalty in 2019.

During Big 12 media days on Tuesday, Big 12 coordinator of football officials Greg Burks said there are some determining factors when deciding whether or not a flag will be thrown.

A momentous day indeed.

That was a stupid rule to begin with, like celebrating a touchdown.

Yeah... that's not how this works...

Throwing a flag for a hand gesture is pretty immensely gay anyways. I guess I can understand flipping a bird, suck it, jerking off, or choke type gestures as they're pretty commonly accepted as insults to the general public, but if your school has a lame hand gesture, is it really that big of a deal when the other team tweaks it and uses it against you. Just seems dumb to flag.

That is ridiculous for that ever to be a penalty in the first place. Wow, that is the gayest thing I've ever heard. It's not like your flipping them off or anything lol. That rule was pathetic and should be done away with. Especially since LSU will be utilizing the horns down a whole lot during our game in Austin when we pulverize them. Geaux tigers

Is this for real? Offhand, I can't recall this happening to us in Jax, and not sure why the rules would change there?

Seems like the work around would be to do rock, paper, scissors with your arms extended...

Frankly, if your players are allowed to make any gesture as a celebration - and they should - it and variations of it should be fair game for another team as well.

Is it still a penalty to pretend to holster your weapons? Asking for Oklahoma State

It’s incredible that rule ever happened. As much grief as we give the Ags, stuff like this had to be maddening. For pity’s sake, sometimes I do the Gator chomp when we aren’t even playing Florida.

I assume doing the "Whorns-up" at the opposing team is also a penalty right?

Good Lord, wouldn't it be sweet if all hand signs were outlawed? The Big 12 wouldnt know what to do.

John Kelly got a 15 yard penalty after tying the game at 20 in 2017.

Funnily enough it led to Franks’ Hail Mary.

Kansas State essentially lost in the first Pinstripe Bowl b/c a player saluted the troops in the stands after scoring a TD.

Was far too mad at Lyle to really care about the penalty at that point iwabh. Just thought it was hilarious that every Florida defender does it after a sack or TFL, but it’s only punished when the opposing team does it.

Man, that’s just one that was actually written down.

When 1/3 of your teams (including a couple of the biggest names) leave the conference largely because of the constant Bigfooting, that should tell you something.
