Prof,

I've read Suttree and trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's in my top 5 favorite novels of all time.

Yes it is an investment of time, but the prose is so complex and elegant that you can't help but love the book. So many characters involved and the landscape Cormac paints is something I think any Vol will identify with.

Thanks trader_tiger. I've heard from older Knoxvillians that have read it that it's absolutely legit in describing a lot of how Knoxville was at that time and I know it mentions places I'm very familiar with. I know Knoxville was a rough and tumble place during that time frame so I look forward to a chronicle of that. I don't mind the thick prose (I'm a Faulkner fan) or a time investment (also a King fan) so it's definitely something I look forward to, especially with a better review from someone who loves it.

Please don't associate an average electronic band with the rest of that list.

STS9 is so overrated and a fad. They aren't even considered great in their own genre anymore.

Archibald's is in Tuscaloosa city limits. As you turn off of US-82 onto Watermelon Road, it becomes Tuscaloosa.

Nope. Archibald's is definitely within the Northport city limits.

But will Suttree make you want to kill yourself, ala The Road? This is really the only cogent question.

Oof. I love Fayetteville, but its culture/arts/music/etc. aren't really that notable. The only two things I can remember being of national (or even regional) interest are Jessie Lunderby, the sheriff's office employee who took her clothes off for a magazine, and Weev, the griefer troll internet guy who showed the exploit iPads had with email addresses.

Also, I know apologists want to lump all of northwest arkansas in as the college town, but I've lived there. The towns have nothing in common.

All three of MS college towns can claim the first McAlisters in a weird way.

Two owners opened the prototype store, Bulldog Deli, in Starkville. The 1st owner wanted to expand, the 2nd owner did not. So the two owners seperated and the 1st owner started his own company based on the same idea and opened up Checkers in Oxford. Then he opened up McAlister's Deli in Hattiesburg. He then decided they all should be called McAlisters.

So Bulldog Deli was the prototype. Checkers was the first of the company now called McAlisters in Oxford. Hattiesburg had the actual first one called McAlisters in the company.
