I see how Gus was so easily able to assimilate to the culture at UCF now.

Prior to this game, I heard the Gumps swore this was the best team of all time.
You're thinking of 2016 Alabama and the last second loss to Clemson.
538 had them as the best team of all time prior to that loss.

2011 LSU. Beat all kinds of conference champions.
On the same line of thinking, Tebow not winning his second Heisman is the biggest Heisman theft of my lifetime. Dude was robbed.

2004 Auburn, maybe?
Should have gone to the big game, but they chose a cheating team (USC) instead. JMO.
2004 would have been one hell of a playoff:
1. USC vs 4. Texas
2. Oklahoma vs 3. Auburn
The only problem would have been an undefeated Utah program in the mix causing a lot of naysaying about the “true” champion, but the playoff itself would have been fun to watch.

Pretty sure it would have been USC vs Auburn. Still chaps my arse that an undefeated SEC Champ got passed over.

Let’s not forget Aubie and 1983! Toughest schedule in the nation. Both #1 & 2 got beat. Miami pole valted from #5 when Aubie was 3 going in to the bowl games.

We were deprived of a lot of good 4 team playoffs in the BCS era. 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2011 would probably have been epic semi-final match-ups.
The downside would be a few years with a few lopsided blowouts like 2005. God help the poor teams in the alternate universe that faced USC and Texas in the 2005 college football playoff.

Has to either be 2011 LSU or 2004 Auburn.

2011 LSU
Non LSU team
2004 Georgia had the talent, coach everything to win and left it all on the field.
This was due to the Georgia team forgetting there is more than LSU on your schedule.
So really 2018 Alabama, better than this years Bama team.
Out of conference Ohio St. 2019. stacked.
