I was about to say Hutson Mason too. He had a very good season in 2014.

Hutson is wildly underrated but I think dj is the go-to answer bc he could've started for 100 other programs at some point in his career and essentially had a free pick of schools but waited 4 years here instead. Mason didn't have near as many options. Not to mention dj won sec player of the year and the sec title

Burrow injures his finger at osu and lost his job to a first rounder. He transferred to LSU in May & was starting against Miami in September. He’s the real deal.

Tyler Wilson was pretty good. It helps he balled out at Auburn when Mallett was hurt.

Who mentioned Burrow before you?

No one. I saw a white guy in an LSU uniform and assumed.

For Bama it was Blake Sims.

Steadman Shealy actually did something few Alabama QBs have done...have a perfect season and a national championship. He was a backup until his senior year. Maybe only one stat he leads in comparison...but a pretty damn big one.

I don't disagree with anything that you posted.

But Hutson could have transferred to a school/offense that could have played to his strengths.
Hutson held most of the state of georgia passing records prior to Deshaun Watson. That was a Boise State type of quick passing offense (slants, crosses, curls, and posts).
Instead, Mason ran an offense counter to what he was good at. The offense was designed to spread out the defense to enable the bell-cow running game room between the tackles. Georgia had Mason throw an Aaron Murray offense with everything numbers to the sidelines. He did very well. He did his best. But it basically asked him to do the opposite of what he was built to do (Hutson Mason was a poor man's Kellen Moore. I honestly think he could have produced the same results in college as Moore, but I don't hesitate to add the Moore is immensely more capable to survive in the NFL)

Clearly Shockley. Unfortunately I think this type of player will go by the wayside. CFB free agency with no restrictions on immediate eligibility is inevitable.

That's already happened. Now if a guy doesn't start his true freshman season he can leave with impunity. Sad.

Matt Jones didn't start out as qb as a freshman.

Nutt was slow to figure things out sometimes.

Bert Jones shared playing time with Paul Lyons before starting full time his senior year.

I know this doesn’t exactly fit your metric that you set but it is noteworthy.

Eli Manning did not start ahead of Romero Miller his freshman year in 2000. Romero was a good QB but imagine Eli Manning with Deuce and Joe Gunn in the backfield.

I don't count Tua. TF starting QBs are so rare, I don't consider that waiting his turn.
