I was going to say passionate fanbases. That's all.

Team: LSU

Best returning player? Zach Watson

Player most likely to take the big leap forward? Jake Slaughter

Top newcomer? Daniel Cabrera

ETA: I see a lot of LSU people saying Smith will make the big leap forward. I guess it's a matter of semantics/perspective. I do think Smith will raise his average about 50 points (from .281) and hit double digit HRs and will play a great defensive SS (moving from 3B).

But Slaughter's improvement will be even greater compared to last year. And he's been getting exit velos north of 106 mph regularly so far this fall.

As an LSU fan, some of the players from other teams I'm excited to watch are:

Tristan Pompey - Kentucky
Grae Kessinger - Ole Miss
Braden Shewmake - A&M (my personal preseason POY)
Kameron Misner - Mizzou

And the team I'm excited about seeing this season is Tennessee.

Team: Auburn

Best returning player? RHP Casey Mize, best player in the conference.

Player most likely to take the big leap forward? 3B Josh Anthony, a 2016 juco All American. Struggled last year at the plate after being among the best juco hitters. I expect his average to rise considerably as well as maintain being one of the best defensive 3B in conference. I also look for big steps forward for RHP Davis Daniel and SS Will Holland.

Top newcomer? It's hard to go against RHP Tanner Burns, top incoming freshman in the country. But I think 1B Brendan Venter, juco, will have a big year.

Let's check mine.

Casey Mize as best player in the conference? Yes and likely top player selected in upcoming draft.

Josh Anthony taking the biggest step forward! Not really, he hasn't really progressed much at all.

Brendan Venter as the top newcomer?

We have 6 new comers who have showed out big time and cemented their place at Auburn. Whether the best is Venter, Julien, Burns, Greenhill, Wright, or Williams is a lot harder decision to make.

Personally I think it has to be Williams. Regardless, Williams, Burns, Julien, and Greenhill should all make first team All frosh team.

Team: UF

Best returning player? Brady Singer and/or Micheal Byrne

Player most likely to take the big leap forward? Tyler Dyson- moving into the Sunday starter role after not pitching much during the regular season but was lights out during the NCAA tourney including starting the championship winning game

Top newcomer?
Brady McConnell will likely start at Shortstop for UF. A better hitting SS than we have had recently but not as good as Fontana or Guthrie defensively.

s he one of those 21-year-old SOs? If not then he's got another year before he's draft eligible.

He'll turn 21 in July. Dude did great in the Cape Cod league over the summer (4-0, 1.93 ERA).

Team: Louisiana State University

Best returning player? Zach Watson, Zach Hess, Antoine Duplantis, Josh Smith

Player most likely to take the big leap forward?
Caleb Gilbert, from a very good reliever and spot starter to staff ace. Todd Peterson as a third starter he's in shape finally and has the goods

Top newcomer?
Daniel Cabrera- he is going to be a dynamic hitter with a cannon for a arm and can also fill in some as a lefty out of the bullpen

Hunter Fedducia- he takes over at catcher and has the bat to hit at this level some questions defensively but what questions there are his bat will make up for

Team:

Best returning player? Some combination of Kevin Smith (LHP), Michael Curry (DH/C All SEC), and Cam Shephard (SS - All SEC, Freshman All American)

Player most likely to take the big leap forward? Honestly no clue. I have zero faith in Stricklin... just passing time until we try the coaching carousel again at this point... would be happy to be wrong of course.

Top newcomer? Emerson Hancock is the top rated incoming recruit... #3 pitcher in the state, #165 in Baseball America top 500. Unfortunately missed out on Drew Waters to the draft after he sprouted up 3 inches and put on 30 pounds of muscle from the time we offered him to this past MLB draft.

Let's see how I did.

Best returning player?
Brandon Shewmake
OBP-.420
SLUG-.492
OPS-.912

Yup, he was the best and continues it this year.

Player most likely to take the big leap forward?
George Janca
OBP-.273
SLUG-.350
OPS-.623

Swing and a miss here.

Top newcomer?
Michael Helman
OBP-.471
SLUG-.570
OPS-1.041

He's passed Shew as our best player. Kid has been unreal in his first stint outside of JUCO.

Top newcomer? Bryce Bonnin or Heston Kjerstad

Um, I respectfully disagree. Isaiah had a LONG way to go, he has as many 1 inning outings as he does quality starts. Solid arm but very unreliable currently.

Bonnin has massive potential, but that’s all it’s been since he hasn’t actually played any. Kjerstad on the other hand is a clutch beast already and has gotten better week to week. He will be a major force next year.
