Surprises from week 1 of SEC play for me...

Tennessee sweeping Florida was impressive. That Gators team is really good imo.

Texas A&M can't hit the ball. 6 total runs in the 3 game series. Their starting pitching is really good, perhaps near the top of the league. They can still turn it around, but they are lost at the plate right now.

I'm not sure what to make of Texas right now. It feels like a classic Texas team. Strong pitching, good lineup (not great, but clutch at times) and solid defense. This weekend will be interesting as I don't have a good feel on LSU either.

Do the Hogs have some pitching problems or is Ole Miss better this year?
22 runs allowed in 3 games.

South Carolina had a pretty good weekend, but couldn't finish in Game 3.

Alabama sweeping the Aggies at Blue Bell was impressive. Yes, the Aggies played a role, but that's a hard place to win.

Georgia gets down. Georgia mashes. That's going to catch up to them at some point, but they keep on rolling..

Skenes fell in his lap at LSU.

When Skenes arrived at LSU he was a catcher first, pitcher second. Skenes was an outstanding hitter at Air Force. Jay and Wes convinced him to focus on pitching only.

Skenes went from throwing 95 and only 2 pitches in his arsenal to throwing 100+ and having 4 pitches.

For anyone to say Wes Johnson didn’t have a profound effect on Skenes career is being disingenuous.

I actually had forgotten that he played catcher too.. and we played against Air Force, so I knew that.. he was just that good as an ace for LSU.

Thanks for the additional info.

The hill is pretty badass.

It’s not even in its heyday anymore. Back in 2008 when we ended up a game short of a natty in Omaha, it was peak college baseball fandom. I’ll never forgive our former AD for not only letting that energy die out on shitty coaching hires and refusing to grow with the sport, but for literally planting trees at the top of the hill to block the view of those crowds so they’d stay away. Current AD had the good sense to personally climb up there and help the facilities crew cut down anything impeding the view as we got into May.

Arkansas starting pitching is likely a notch down from what it was a year ago, but the entire staff is likely a notch up from a year ago, if that makes sense. There is no dominant starter, but a collection of guys who can get you through 4-6 innings on their weekend starts. Though Root's performance, or lack thereof was a surprise on Friday, for me anyway. He had already been somewhat tested against TCU and only gave up 2 hits in that outing. But for all three, Gaeckle, Root, and Beidelshies, it was their first SEC starts and on the road.

I would hope we see them settle down a bit this coming weekend playing South Carolina at Baum.

Is Braden Booth going to redshirt or is he injured? Mr. baseball in Alabama last year and a great two way player. I figured he would’ve forced himself into the lineup. I liked his upside as a hitter more than a pitcher but he has a plus slider

BigBro - I know you don't think much of me but I think a great deal of the work you are putting into this and the information that you share. I look at it daily and am much appreciative.

Plus just happy to see there are still some rabid baseball fans that exist.

All good from my side. Thank you for the feedback. At the end of the day, I love baseball and I love the stats behind the game. It isn't for everyone, but for those that do understand the little things about the game, it's pretty fricking awesome.

So I'm playing around with the format a little bit..

Anyone have thoughts? Too much data? Want more data?

Some of this will become more relevant as more games are played.

The Athletic and ESPN have their own polls now as well - but not sure if you want to throw more in there

Excellent work all year

Considering their overall record, I'm presuming that LSU is so low in RPI is because their OOC schedule is fairly weak?

It was definitely weak, but I thought pretty similar to Tennessee’s I would have thought (until this weekend when Tenn played Florida and LSU got Missou). A road win at DBU and swept the three game series in Frisco. Surprised it’s THAT poor.

Missouri is basically the equivalent of playing a 3 game set against Kent State or something at this point. They'll jump up as the year moves on solely because they'll play more good teams (which will in turn move LSU up).

I dunno how long it will continue to appear weak... who knows.

That said, if at the beginning of the season if you had told me we would sweep Texas A&M I would've thought you were drunk, lying, or we were an amazing team.

We're good, but A&M's nose dive from the pre-season rankings is almost historic. Considering how good the SEC is this year, they may go from #1 to a losing record and no postseason bid.

I don't see the ESPN rankings and The Athletic is behind a paywall. If you want to drop either of them here, I'll update the chart. The more the better.

All stats have been updated now.

Home Team Record 12-12
Road Team Record 12-12

Home Series Record 4-4
Road Series Record 4-4

Thought that was interesting.. but perhaps just a fluke..
