Yes I considered Bama's 2020 National Title to be illegitimate. But to be fair, I think every college national title during the 2020 - 2021 academic year has an asterisk and is not illegitimate. I'm glad we had a college sports season in 2020 - 2021, but to me it was more for entertainment purposes during a pandemic than a genuine judge of who was the best.
You'll never convince me the National Title game isn't a very different game if Ohio State plays a full schedule. Their schedule was constantly "start-stop" due to the Big 10 rules, so it would've been impossible for any Big 10 team to get real momentum.
Plus any arguments of "getting more rest" is more than offset by having more game experience and being more battle hardened. Ohio State didn't even get to play Michigan in 2020. They also lost the opportunity to play Oregon in the non-conference, an Oregon team that won the Pac-12 that year.
There was nothing normal about that football season. And I absolutely believe, if Ohio State plays a normal schedule, that the National Title game is very different. I think Ohio State actually would've had a great chance to beat Alabama in that scenario.
So no I don't consider Alabama's 2020 National Title legitimate. Just like I don't consider Baylor's 2021 Men's Basketball National Title or Mississippi State's 2021 Baseball National Titles to be legitimate.
I cheer for LSU, but if LSU had won the 2020 National Title, I wouldn't consider it legitimate either. Yes I would've still celebrated it, but I know it would have an asterisk next to it.
There was just far too much going on. Games being cancelled, Covid protocols, players sitting out the season, no fans, limited practice. Way too many variables outside of a normal season to consider the season, or it's National Champion, legitimate in any way.

How do they perform on the road in front of a stadium of 100,000 drunks versus silent cardboard cut outs. I mean, even. Vegas gives points to home teams.
I believe an All-SEC schedule combined with Bama not enjoying a typical home field advantage either offsets this.
I would also add playing a conference championship and playoff semifinal. Lots of teams won national titles in the 20th without having to play a conference championship and playoff semifinal with nothing to gain and everything to lose. Some of those teams didn’t even play a true national championship game due to bowl ties.
There’s no real criticism for 2020 Bama.

Think what you want, I genuinely mean it. Sports to me were more entertainment that year (to keep sports fans and the country in general from going crazy, we saw what happened in summer 2020 when people had nothing to do) than legitimate seasons. I'm sorry but your last legitimate National Title is now approaching a decade ago.

it shows what would happen in a world not fililed with disadvantages for bama. changing rules to make it harder for bama etc....it was nothing but a football field and a football and the crimson tide rises above all else. dont fool yourself it takes all this other shite to put the tide down even if its just a little

Bama had a great team no doubt…better than some if not all their other NC teams. Why the NC is not up there in history is also because if it wasn’t the NC game..it would have been rescheduled or cancelled altogether. Ohio State was missing 2NFL draftees on DL, one on Off line, countless db backups and LBs, their kicker and Trey Simon got hurt the first play.A full strength OSU vs a full strength Bama any other year would have been a great game and a classic for the ages. Ohio State was clearly one of the best two teams despite how many games they played.

Let's not kid ourselves. Bama's 2020 schedule was hardly some gauntlet. Out of the 10 game regular season they had 2 games against good teams. Texas A&M and UGA. And both those games were at home.
All of their other games were against .500 squads. LSU, Auburn, Missouri and Kentucky were all mediocre. Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Arkansas were terrible.
Bryant-Denny Stadium is not a particularly big home field advantage. Yes Bama was hard to beat there during Saban, but that was because of the team. Bryant-Denny Stadium doesn't have the aura of Tiger Stadium, Jordan-Hare Stadium (where so many inferior Auburn teams have somehow beat superior opponents and you well know), The Swamp or Neyland Stadium.
Let's also remember, when Alabama played Ohio State in Miami, it was still limited capacity. Considering about 1/2 of Ohio has moved to Florida, Arizona or South Carolina, with a full stadium that's a quasi home game for Ohio State. That alone would've made the National Title game very different. I think in a typical regular season, Ohio State beats Alabama that year.

Still doesn't mean they were a good team. That Ole Miss team was 5 - 5, including a loss to an incredibly mediocre LSU team. That Ole Miss team was handily beaten by fricking Arkansas.
Great teams also don't barely beat a mediocre UF team by 6 in the SEC Title Game. Alabama got very lucky to win that game and that UF team had lost again to a mediocre LSU team the week before and then got dismantled by Oklahoma in their bowl game.

Let me do my best Whorn fan impression..if Tua aint hurt Bama beats 2019 LSU.
I ll bet you they would not have wanted to play that team again like they did a few years earlier and we all know how that turned out for The Honey Badger and that crew.

There are things on this site you just have to accept without questioning:
46-41 is a blowout
A 10 game SEC schedule is meaningless
Alabama is a poor, backwards state while, at the same time, Alabama has too much money, power and influence in the SEC
The refs, ESPN, CBS, the SEC, national media and NCAA all hate LSU
Bama has never scored a touchdown without holding

If LSU had played Bama again in the CFP, LSU could've named the score against Bama. The LSU offense that year was genuinely unstoppable.
The first game only got close because LSU let their foot off the gas.
Sorry that Burrow was more of a QB than Tua will ever be.
And 2019 LSU handles 2020 Bama. 2018 Clemson handles 2020 Bama. 2022 UGA handles 2020 Bama. 2020 Bama is just glad it wasn't a normal season and it was a down season in college football.

If, if, if…You live in a world of hypotheticals.
I really thought LSU fans would begin to heal when Saban retired. But now it is clear that TDS is incurable.

Something really big happened early in that 2019 game that it turns out saved LSU
Tua bad ankle and all is loose and going to score, and just drops the ball. Turns it over unforced and at the end they lose by 5.

So what other national titles should we call into question?
1. 1971 Nebraska for not having to play a conference title game?
2. 1973 Alabama for losing their bowl game?
3. 1984 BYU playing an unranked bowl opponent?
4. 1991 Miami and Washington for not having to play each other?
5. 2007 LSU for suffering two losses?
6. 2009 Alabama for no playoff semifinal?
There are a hell of a lot teams with questionable titles and things they didn’t have to navigate that 2020 Bama did.

And here's some truths that will be hard for you to handle.
- 46 - 41 is a blowout.
At the end of the day, 2019 LSU handled 2019 Bama. You conveniently omit that Bama NEVER led in the game. LSU was up by 20 at halftime and it took a miracle for Bama to get to within 5. 2 minutes left in the game and LSU was up by 12.
I know it hurts. Many of you Bama fans thought 2019 Bama was going to be your best team ever, and we beat you. 2019 LSU whipped 2019 Bama.
- A 10 game SEC schedule is meaningless
You want to act like this means you were playing peak UGA, LSU, Texas and Florida every week. You make this sound like it's harder than an NFL schedule. Let me remind you what your 10 game SEC schedule was like:
- at Missouri (mediocre, first year for Drinkwitz)
- Texas A&M (good team)
- at Ole Miss (mediocre, first year for Kiffin)
- UGA (good team)
- at Tennessee (mediocre UT team that lost to UK by 27 the week before)
- at Miss State (bad team, first year for Leach, RIP)
- Kentucky (mediocre)
- Auburn (mediocre)
- at LSU (mediocre, Orgeron had stopped caring)
- at Arkansa (terrible team, first year for Pittman)
So let's see here, out of that 10 game gauntlet, 2, maybe 3 games were actually against good teams. Really only UGA and Texas A&M were good teams on that schedule. I'll give you Tennessee as a 3rd game just because it's a rivalry game, but that Tennessee team lost to Kentucky by 27 at home the week before)!
It also must have been nice to have faced not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 FIRST YEAR COACHES.
Bama's 2020 schedule was not difficult.
