For personal reasons I'm not a fan of VT, so I'd like to see the Tide roll in this game only. Does anyone have a well thought out argument or telling evidence that Bama wins this one on Sept. 5? I don't follow the ACC very much, especially after what we did to them in our season opener in '07 (smoked 'em like boudin). I don't think VT has enough weapons on offense to dent the Tide's Defense (Taylor and Evans are only two men), but how about the other way around? Bama's RB stable against VT's D-line and LB's?

I have a feeling it will be D vs D and a low scoring game. Some kind of defensive score or a field goal may determine this game, imo.

I predict a very low scoring VT win. Great defenses with poor OLines. Bama has the skill position players but a young Oline. I think VT lost 2 or 3 starting Oline as well. Unlike most I think skill wise qb is an upgrade but I am EXTREMELY concerned about our OLine. WE are set at RB so with a good offensive game plan we may pull out a win. Hopefully GMac can throw on the run. Vt 14 Bama 10

I don't know much about who Va Tech has coming back. I think our offense will learn about themselves in this one...hopefully in a good way. I expect our D will be all over Va Tech, don't see the Hokies scoring much on offense. There may be a special teams score for Va Tech as that is a trademark of theirs.

I say 23- 13, Bama.

VA Tech will need a defensive TD or a blocked punt return to get to double digits.

That is possible with Beamer's style of play. Although i admire Bama playing a tough team early especially the first game, but when you have questions on offense they would need time to gel that could be the achillies heel for Bama that game. To hard to predict a tough game this early in the season

1. Virginia Tech -- The Hokies stayed at the top, as they improved up front and solved their backup quarterback question. Ryan Williams also made a name for himself this spring and proved more than capable of adding to an already talented backfield. Kicker might be the biggest question.

It's ESPN, so take it FWIW.

Va. Tech 2008
ncaa.org
Scoring offense ranked 90th

Rushing offense ranked 35th

Passing offense ranked 111th

Total offense ranked 103rd

Defensively, they were ranked 9th in scoring defense.

eta... I think like Clemson last year, we will match up well. Our strength will hold their offense, it'll just be up to our offense and special teams not to screw it up.

With respect, VT in no way can be compared to Clemson. That being said, I'll be hoping you win.

I just don't believe in ever rooting for another SEC team to lose OOC.

I'm not comparing them to Clemson, only stating that I think we match up well against them, as we did with Clemson.

Looking at their schedules for the last two years, I'm wondering how it will be any different this season.

Also, take a look at DocBugbear's Onfield Talent Rundown and you have to wonder how they're ranked so high, again, even though it's early.

Well, they did win the ACC, plus their bowl game. They don't lose games by making mistakes, they make you beat them.

Both decent points...

I hope they make Bama beat them, otherwise I'll have no reason to like Bama...not that they care.

Va tech always gets the preseason love and ends up being a disapointment. it wouldn't surprise me if bama beat them like 28 - 3

doesn't VT have all 11 back on D and most of their second string as well?
