Listen to Richard Dickson talk about him on Hannycast the other night. Called him a football genius. Said when they played together at LSU, Shep would screw up practice because he would call out what the offense was about to do just based on formation and stuff. They had to tell him to chill because it wasn’t helping but that’s pretty cool insight I thought.
I would include Reliford. I think he was going to break out this season had the injury not happened. He’s a physical player who works really hard and has more upside than all the older edge players who will be gone after this year.

Will be interesting to see how they make up his snaps. I wouldn’t mind seeing Gooden kick out to take some of those reps. Could get Mathis more snaps in that scenario if Gooden gave 10-12 of his snaps at DE. They have plenty of options.
He did not say he will need surgery. Said he may need surgery and that has yet to be determined.
May not be a popular opinion but I like him as a play caller. The run game ineffectiveness is one thing but I don’t know that I put that on play calling.

Biggest issue I think last year was lack of explosiveness. I think it’s good to have a CJ Daniels or Lacy style receiver on the field, but having 2 of your main guys not being any type of deep threat gives the D such an advantage.

Look at Florida game as the perfect example. We ran 92 plays, had the ball over 41 minutes, and got 25 first downs. The fact we scored only 16 points despite such a dominant ability to maintain possession is almost impossible. If you run 92 plays on offense in a game, just by law of averages you should have at least a handful of explosive chunk plays with a few ending in 6.

That game to me really symbolized that we had a pretty good offensive scheme and play calling to control the game like that but almost no explosiveness which was a reflection of our personnel. That part looks much different going into this year, at least on paper.
I think he’s star in our base D and he replaces Keys as the 2nd LB if we have a true nickel on the field. That was my original point.
I’m high on Spears. He’s the pure safety that everyone wants. The fact he was so close to breaking into the starting lineup as a true freshman is promising. He was rotating in the first few games before they decided to stick with the older players.
My hope is the new players are more reliable tacklers and more aggressive coming up against the run. Sage was fine in coverage but you never saw him flying up and blowing up a run or screen play. Gilbert is a limited player to begin with and he was playing with 1 arm.

Watch a team like Georgia with how their safeties come flying up, it’s like they’re playing a different sport with the level of physicality.

Ideally Spears would play FS and would be the deep guy when they go single high. Let Cooley play closer to the LOS. If Delaney is playing nickel then I assume we aren’t playing a Star and Perk is playing the other LB spot with Whit. Keys would be on the bench. They can’t play all these guys at the same time so that part will be interesting to see develop.

I think by the 2nd half of next year the D should be noticeably improved. The issue is playing on the road against a really good offense with a lot of continuity the first game of the season. Baker has his work cut out getting that many new players in the secondary to play fast, assignment correct D right out the gate. I’m expecting some bumps with a combination of transfers and inexperienced guys.

Kelly mentioned Toviano running with 1s. Wondering if staff set the 1s on defense as Spears and Gilbert at safety with Toviano at star. Or maybe Toviano and Spears at safety with 3 LBs in base with Keys basically replacing the star position. If they pre-determined more of a youth movement for this game and Burns relegated to 2nd team maybe he decided to move on.
This Bama dude trying to own LSU fans and get under our skin. He doesn’t realize how much this excites us to know that we’re trying to tamper and allegedly throwing out massive offers

I see this report and just think hell yea, it’s about time we play a little dirty.
I think this dude has more suddenness and wiggle than McMath, I also doubt he’s as fast as McMath in a straight line.

I could see him excelling as a power slot type of player. More in the mold of Jack Bech. Comparing any of these recruits to guys like JaMarr or Jarvis who are once in a decade types of talents is pretty wild to me.
Was gonna say, when I see a dude like this I can imagine him playing safety and bullying people. Plus he had ball skills.
Hoping he goes back to safety / star.

To backfill him at RB I’d love to see Zavion Thomas there. Think he has higher potential as a RB than receiver.
The crazy part about when Bron listens to Beethoven is he can actually guess what notes are coming before they’re even played. He actually knew the entire composition of the songs before Beethoven even tho he wasn’t born yet smdh man Bron just on another level intellectually, creatively, artistically like what can’t this man do.
He’s a brilliant football mind, wouldn’t surprise anyone if he turned into a great coach.
Here’s another thing to consider… if what has been discussed up to this point is true, then he was planning to commit to LSU, and had a nice offer from LSU. Bama upped their offer today, and now he’s leaning that way. If LSU feels they HAVE to have him, and the only reason he’s leaning Bama now is $, then LSU basically has tonight and tomorrow morning to get their $ straight, and counter with the offer he can’t refuse. If they feel it’s an absolute must, they’ll come up with the money. If they don’t, that tells you he’s not an absolute must.
I thought Saban’s rant about A&M was specifically asking his boosters to step up more, not acting like he was above it.

What was his injury?
Does he project as a Jack or more of the big DE?

Good player, will be drafted higher than people think. Versatile, fast, aggressive, around the ball.

He’s going to have a sneaky good NFL career. Aside from the versatility, he’s going to measure above 6’ and have really long arms. Having a guy who can legit backup your corners, nickel, and safeties in the NFL is so valuable.
