DuBose and Shula were both below average coaches who still managed 10-win seasons in year three of their tenures. DuBose even managed to beat Florida twice in the same year and win the SEC.

The potential was there, clearly. But the accurate assessment is Saban resurrected Bama or "remade" Bama. Of all the young men and coaches that have worn the A and come thru that program since Saban made it excellent, there is only one constant. That's lil Nicky.
