re: Bama fans...how is it that Saban has embarked on an "excuse tour" in 2022?

Just as a general reminder, a poster on the Rant represents speaks as one and doesn’t/can’t speak on behalf of other fans of the same team.

I’m sure Saban’s off season remarks are geared primarily toward preparing his team for 2022.

Now there is certainly plenty of excuse making and rationalization by some in the fanbase.

You should have gone deeper into the worst poster tournament.

I just thought this was a universally known thing. When Saban loses or feels threatened, he makes excuses and/or whines, be it about about a rule, hurry-up offenses, "didn't want to be there," etc...

The only exception I take to the OP is that this is something new. It's been going on a long, long time and has been thoroughly discussed throughout the country for years. People try to predict what his excuse will be this time, and we know it usually comes months after the loss.

Any team that isn't beaten up and missing key players at the end of a season is extremely lucky and has a huge advantage. Yeah, no shite.

Saban is the most successful HC there ever was. We all know this. But he is also kind of a bitch when things don't go his way. He can't accept that he could ever simply be beaten. I'm sure that personality trait is closely linked to what makes him so successful.

I don't see how this is even slightly controversial. The evidence trail is long and obvious.

Well it doesn't look like he'll ever have to make an excuse after playing Oklahoma!

We're handling it quite well. The question is, can Alabama handle failure?

Yeah, that’s it. Bama folds every time they lose big a game. Like when they won two straight national championships after the heartbreak of the Camback in 2010. Or when they won three more national championships (and played for three more) after the Kick Six in 2013.

You are so right. Saban and Bama can’t handle failure or a loss. Good thread.

Nick Saban against Georgia:

@ LSU 2-1

@ Bama 7-2

Combined 9-3

Why are Georgia fans even talking about Nick Saban? He owns you.

I mentioned something along those lines in a thread a few years ago. Back then if they didn’t win the CFP the following season was called a “revenge” tour.. we will see?

I've personally never seen another coach who continues to have the player's attention, game after game and play after play the way Nick Saban does it. Hyper-focused is the only way to describe it. So whatever works, and it's been working for over 15 years at the Capstone.

Another factor is that Saban is often brutally honest which means he is less prone to coach-speak, making him more likely to state what he sees as the real reasons for something happening. This is especially true when he is engaged in an interview.

In his brutal honesty has he ever admitted to the part he played in failure or defeat? I haven’t heard it with regards to why he only had two WRs that didn’t have clubs for hands. I haven’t heard it as to why he didn’t adjust on defense when we changed up the OL. Saban is an excellent coach and I know he analyzes everyone else and looks for ways to improve them, does he do that with himself? Has he ever talked about this publicly. My question is an honest one, not meant as a flame.

He can be hard headed and arrogant, but I’d contend he’s the most introspective and adaptive coach in the game. He has repeatedly changed his recruiting, player evaluation, game planning, offensive strategy, strength & conditioning and anything to get an edge as the game has evolved. People say he’s stubborn and thinks he’s always right. He brings in more coaches who were previous opponents and other outside viewpoints than any coach I know of. He may not speak about it as publicly as you’d like, but his willingness to admit his old ways of doing things won’t work anymore is undeniable.

He didn't really want an answer. He just wanted you to say that the Alabama team that Georgia beat in the National Championship game was one of the best Alabama teams in years. He probably didn't watch many Alabama games last year so he does not know that Alabama struggled through much of the year. And I'm guessing some of them feel it somehow diminishes Georgia's title somehow. Not sure how.

Ok but does anyone actually dispute that:

A. Alabama was in a rebuild in 2021 due to what they lost to the draft, and

B. Georgia could not cover Jameson Williams and his injury was a colossal shift in the National Title game

Otherwise I don’t know why these true statements have Georgia fans so riled up

Thanks. He certainly has adapted as you said. Some leaders aren’t willing to discuss their own faults publicly and given what a great coach and leader he is it’s obviously a good approach

I could be totally off-base but when was the last time Bama returned 9+ starters on both sides of the ball?

Sure sounds like they likely had a lot of talent but inexperience last year, hence the “rebuild” comment.

I mean he said we got our arse beat in the 4th quarter. I mean that's as much respect as you can give someone.
