Was this hire to help with and CFP ranking issues with not having a coach?

Or does this mean he’s head coach for next year and zero search??

you could've had Collin Klein,
noted boy genius offensive
guru. He is amazing what he
can do in short yardage situations. He'll show you all about it. oh well, hire him as your OC. please.

What would have been wrong with simply naming Golding as the Interim?

There was not really the need to name a permanent right away. I would think the committee would easily understand.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Seriously contemplated becoming an LSU fan after this shite was announced. I said if we ever made another hire like Matt Luke in my life, I would be done with Ole Miss football. And my God, that may have actually happened

Just be a Lane Kiffin fan like NBA fans. They follow players, not teams. Since CFB players cycle out in a short time frame you can follow a coach instead

Truth: He's trying to give you the best chance you can get this moment in the playoff. If he's terrible next season, will be easy to fire him.

I would have hired Golding as well.. keep the defensive players, good recruiter...if it doesn't work it's ok we don't overpay for a Sunbelt coach and we can find a better candidate in 2-3 years..Hiring Golding was the best option

Our secret plan to make everyone in the SEC suck like us is coming to fruition.

Greg Byrne hires Debeor to bring the Tide down.
Scott Stricklin destroys Florida football.
John Cohen hires a Communist.
Joe Judge is hired at Ole Miss, to make Kiffin leave.
Who's next?

Given our position... playoff selection right around the corner... all other available decent head coaches already scooped up... who would you have hired?

And no "Well, I'd have begun planning and contacting weeks ago..."

Not even close to the rent-a-pet Juice Kiffin news.

But, yes, it does seem an odd hire and desperate attempt to hold a team and class together. What are the terms of Pete's deal?

It felt like a knee jerk hiring to basically honor him for staying. Very strange hiring, plenty of good coaches with HC experience would want to coach at OM.
