AU's Jay Tate 2012 defensive depth chart predictions

This guy usually gives pretty good insight.
PROJECTED DEPTH CHART:
(Ends/tackles are interchangeable in VanGorder’s defense)
• DE1: Corey Lemonier, Dee Ford, Ladarius Owens
• DE2: Nosa Eguae, Craig Sanders, Justin Delaine
• DT1: Angelo Blackson, Devaunte Sigler, Jamar Travis,
• DT2: Jeff Whitaker, Gabe Wright/Ken Carter, JaBrian Niles
• SLB: Jonny Evans, Kris Frost, Anthony Swain
• MLB: Jake Holland, Ashton Richardson, Chris Landrum, Cassanova McKinzy
• WLB: Daren Bates, Justin Garrett
• CB/field: T’Sharvan Bell, Robenson Therezie, Ryan White, (Jonathan Rose)
• CB/boundary: Chris Davis, Jonathon Mincy, (Jonathan Rose)

Daren Bates emerged as a front-line player on the weak side. Gone were the fruitless dives of yesteryear, replaced by a more refined approach to tackling. Bates was a leader, a consistent performer and my pick as most valuable defensive player overall. Teammates insist that Kris Frost, a freshman who missed last season because of shoulder surgery, is among the team’s very best athletes and has a chance to be an outstanding player this fall.
The Guy Who Brings His Hardhat: Eguae. He’s productive and plays though pain and brings a calm, cerebral presence at all times. People often ask me whom I consider the leader on defense. This is the guy.
The Guy Who Will Surprise You: Blackson. Sure, you already know him. You know he’s the guy from Delaware. Or maybe you know him as the 300-pound man-child who started throwing around SEC linemen late in the year. He has the size, speed, gumption and brains to be a big-time contributor. I expect a break-out.
The Young Guy To Watch: Whitehead. I’ve met some bright kids during my 14 years at Auburn, but I’m not sure I’ve ever met one with a better grasp of what’s happening on the field. He thinks along with the defense without losing sight of his own responsibilities. I don’t think he has elite physical gifts, though he’s fast enough to play in the SEC and isn’t afraid to get nasty. Carlos Rogers is a fair comparison.

I expect to see a big improvement in AU's D from last year to this one, however, still probably a year away from building an elite D.

I had a feeling Eguae would get the start, although I expect us to rotate DE's a good bit.

I don't expect us to be on bama, LSU, or UGA's level but I do expect noticeable improvement.

Gabe Wright started coming on at the end of the year last year. If he isn't starting I expect him to be in a very regular rotation at DT. Pretty solid 2 deep on the D-line so I expect lots of rotation throughout and significant improvement over last year.
I feel like we are serviceable at OLB if some of the young guys come on to provide depth, but I just have zero confidence with Holland in the middle. Hope he proves me wrong.
ETA: I thought Bell had a pretty nasty injury that would keep him out of the starting lineup and maybe oof of the field all together.

Eehhhh I don't know if it's that cut and dry. There isn't nearly the importance on them like there is in a 3-4 scheme, but you still need guys that are DTs and guys that are clearly ends. We played Pollack at DT in 2001, then switched him to end in 2002 for instance. Your sentence makes it sound like they just take the best 4 linemen and throw them out on the line in any ol' random order. I think if yall put Whitaker at end it probably wouldn't be a good move

I think our defense will be much improved... the new style offense will help as will a year of getting bigger, faster, stronger especially on the D-line. It all starts up front.

He practiced during the spring, just didn't have pads on I believe.I think he'll be good to go during the fall. Therezie might just be better anyway.

Yeah Bell seemed to do best at nickel but Whitehead looked pretty damn good there last year. I imagine Bell will start at CB with Therezie getting in as much as possible.

I doubt he ever plays any meaningful snaps. Landrum or Cass will be the 1st to come in if Jake gets hurt.

He is more of a WLB imo and after Bate's graduates I think that is where he will play.
