You are seeing now what an entire program run by Gus can do, not just the offense. Any AU fan will tell you that the difference this year is not scheme or play calling, but attitude, discipline, and confidence. That is all Gus.

So he's Houston Nutt?

Gus was a GREAT hire. There is no questioning that. But you have to look at the entire staff. We have a staff of guys who can not only recruit, but they can coach their asses off. Gus is an O minded guy. Look at how much the D has improved. That is on Coach Johnson and his entire staff. Our last staff could recruit, but couldn't coach them up. That is the thing that stands out to me from the previous two seasons.

Auburn's 2010 success makes much more sense now He has done well as a game day coach in his short tenure as a HC. 1 year at Arky St. as HC, and 1st year at Auburn. Too soon to tell. Gotta give time for coaching brainfarts to occur and to be questioned. It'll happen.

Of course they will. Who does he think he is? Saban?

Malzahn - getting a return on all that cash Chizik spent ;)

Given the fact that one of your coaches was caught "loaning" a player $500, do you really want to bring up anyone spending cash?

no doubt about it. But all the Auburn fans need to get off Chizik's arse though, he was the one that hired him.

I appreciate Gene Chizik being at Auburn and any Auburn fan that doesn't just sucks. That said, it was his time to go.

I genuinely think that he was a good hire to start with but something got loose with him when we won the Championship and he got no credit for it at all. I think he went out of his way to try to get credit for coaching the team even if that mean driving them into the ground.

Arky fans have a hard time with Gus' success so far, or even admitting anything positive about him at all

My problem with Gus offensively is that instead of opening up a playbook he opens up the rulebook. He finds a loophole then exploits it. Eventually (not long in the SEC) everyone catches on and the shows over.

Please explain. This should be good. (And before you answer, know that AU and Bama are within a few plays in terms of average per game.)

What do you mean by "loophole"? You do realize Gus has been in the SEC for three plus years now, don't you?

Like I said, too soon to form a realistic opinion of him. Terry Bowden started 20-0 at AU. There's just too little info known about his HC abilities. It looks good at this point. That can change quickly. I would be optimistic as an AU fan, but he's just such an unknown right now, not enough info available.

Chapter 7, page 441 of the SEC handbook -

"No Auburn team shall have success during a season that features a championship caliber Alabama team unless Auburn starts a junior college transfer at quarterback."

I'm sure it'll be amended after this season to make sure this bullshite going on in Auburn this year never happens again.

I doubt he's complained much about Oregon or Baylor's offense. Gus is the only one finding and exploiting "loopholes."

About 2010 folks are overlooking one thing: that team was loaded with Tuberville seniors. Those were tough kids. So happen to have gotten NFL time, too. Gus, Cam, and Nick were huge, but there was more to it than that.

Same basic deal with Bowden at Auburn. The team was down after the scandal, but he inherited Pat Dye's players. As soon as they were gone, Auburn got softer.

I think it's the same pattern both times. A terrific coach loses his mojo, but he leaves a tough core to build around.

Please expand on this, I'm sure it will be fascinating. TIA
