This. The unreasonable impatience is a program crippler.

It’ll take 4-5 years at a minimum to ever turn around this mess but no one wants to wait that long. We’re stuck in the spin cycle.

The smart move would’ve been to keep Freeze and have him hire a new OC and bring in another QB to try again. Instead we detonated the entire program (again) 3 years into a rebuild.

You are a complete dumbass if you believe any of this. Could you imagine Auburn with a few more years of Harsin recruiting? Give Freeze another shot to bring in a QB? Are you really fricking stupid?

He literally had the lead in the national championship game with fewer than 30 seconds in the game.

which, as mentioned, has nothing to do with 7 years later after that. My opinion of gus at his firing in 2020 is obviously different than it was after year 1. This isn't rocket science.

While you are making some reasonable observations it is notable that you are an Alabama fan.

Here are some statistics for you:

Bama fan posts on this thread - 17 - 44.3%
Auburn fan posts on this thread - 10 - 26.3%
Georgia fan posts on this thread - 3 - 7.9%
Florida fan posts on this thread - 3 - 7.9%
Arkansas fan posts on this thread - 1 - 2.6%
Oklahoma fan posts on this thread - 1 - 2.6%
MSU fan posts on this thread - 1 - 2.6%
Troy fan posts on this thread - 1 - 2.6%
Texas fan posts on this thread - 1 - 2.6%

Interesting that Gumps have their team in the CFP, but cannot stop thinking about Auburn.

If Kerryon Johnson hadn't gotten injured in 2017 they would've whipped Georgia's arse again in the SEC Championship Game.

I'm glad it happened because it directly led to another national championship for Alabama, but he proved capable of putting together another contender under the right conditions.

Auburn thinks it’s the coaches that are the problem. These coaches were winning before Auburn. Legacy QB ran away, Sumrall said oh hell naw. The problem is Tim Apple and his demands. Cohen is incompetent and he does whatever Tim says.

Tim Cook isn't materially invested in anything to do with Auburn football. I wish he were.

Malzahn needed to go. If Auburn makes a mundane hire after Gus we're probably in much better shape today, even if that hire is long gone. Instead, we hired a guy who thought he could just MWC the SEC and didn't need to do the recruiting song and dance. Then we hired Hugh, who was personable and good at spending NIL money but was clearly lost a year in.

I agree Auburn needs to be patient, but Harsin was leading us down a road of extreme talent deficiency, you have to pull the plug there. And offensive genius Hugh Freeze couldn't put an offense on the field with a hefty NIL haul against lowly UK. The guy was zapped, he made the decision for us. It showed up in subsequent weeks when Auburn easily put up a more formidable O with a first time play caller.

I *think* our fan base will be patient with Golesh if he shows even modest trending in the right direction. Going 7-5 with an enjoyable offense will buy him plenty of goodwill, I think, despite our reputation.

bama fan in a nutshell! It's not enough to make injury excuses for your own team, now you're making them for others as well lol. We reshuffled the OL between those two games, and placed more of an emphasis on downfield passing in the second matchup. We retooled the entire gameplan, and as I'm sure you know Kirby tends to do fairly well in same-season rematches.

But nah, none of that can possibly be true. Let's also recognize that the reason kerryon's shoulder was on it's last tendon is because gus has no load managmenet and ran him into the ground like a rented mule all season. That aint our fault.

bro they lost 4 fricking games that year. And once again, which you don't seem to grasp...he was fired 3 whole seasons later. My point, whihc everyone but you apparently understands, is that when he was fired in 2020 it was evident that he was not going to be able to lead them to a title. Getting really close in year 1, and somewhat kinda close in year 5, doesn't make his firing in year 8 any less correct.

Harsin was almost decent, but he was such an arrogant piece of shite who hated black southern athletes that he should have been nixed from consideration.

It's sad that the ability of 19-22 year old football players determine the self-esteem and self-worth of bama fans. Bama football has held back progress in the state since its success is more important than improving, per-capita income, infant mortality, literacy, public education or any other quality of life factor to the bama football zealots. When a football program controls a university it is no longer a university in the truest sense of the word.
