You realize not all kids that are rated 5* are actually 5* players in reality? Recruiting is not an exact science. They can and do mis-evaluate kids every year.

No, but the point is that a 5* true freshman can be very good, especially one who the critics had already named as the starter.

Is he really "start as a true freshman" good?

Or is he "we don't have anybody else so start the freshman" good?

There's a reason coaches say QBs benefit the most from a redshirt year.

Got a little bro who is a sophomore QB as well. Would be cool if he was legit and we could get several years of Nix boys in a row.

If they can run the ball and not put games on his shoulders, he will probably be pretty good.

In order for the quarterback to perform well the other players need to step up and do well. Not one or the other.

Have you seen Auburn's offense? They heavily depend on QB play to run their offense.

Looks like AU moves up a spot in the West. Looking more like:
Alabama
Texas A&M
Auburn
LSU
Miss State
Ole Miss
Arky

Going to be a long season for Auburn. He doesn't have a good RB or O-line to depend on. Two things you need with a freshman QB.

First SEC starting QB born in in the 21st century, unless I'm mistaken.

Will be an interesting season, to say the least.

Coaches seem to think so apparently, but obviously we will not know until the games are played.

Auburn really only has two legitimate QB's to choose from. A freshman (Bo), and a RS Freshman (Gatewood). So no, we did not have a top upperclassmen QB to compete. It's not like a Joey Lawrence beats out Bryant situation at Clemson.

He is very talented though and comes from an Auburn QB dad who was a fan favorite, and successful in his own right.

Auburn had a Holland that had like 4 or 5 tackles in like 4 or 5 years worth of games .

174

You mean to tell me that white Holland (kind of like black Doug in The Hangover) had 174 tackles?

Though I honestly thought it would be Gatewood and I like the power dimension that he brings, I think this is the right call for Auburn. The idea of a 3 years starting QB for us is unfathomable.

2007 - Brandon Cox
2008 - Kodi Burns
2009 - Chris Todd
2010 - Cam Newton
2011 - Barrett Trotter
2012 - Kyle Frazier
2013 - Nick Marshall
2014 - Nick Marshall
2015 - Jeremy Johnson
2016 - Sean White
2017 - Jarrett Stidham
2018 - Jarrett Stidham
2019 - Bo Nix

I don't think Lawrence or Fromm comparisons apply in this situation. Auburn has a very unique offense. Frankly, I don't think Lawrence or Fromm would do well in Malzahn's offense either. You need a specific sort of cat to run that offense.

You seem to be bent on him not doing well. There are more examples than Fromm/Lawrence.
