She's an Aerospace Engineering student that I understand is to be married next month. I hurt for for her.

Announcers are not better prepared than us in reacting to that. They just knew that they couldn't say "oh shite" even though they thought it. I give them a pass.

Hopefully those work but it's not guaranteed. I pray for her.

Absolutely agree. You’d be hard pressed to find that much power coupled with agility/grace in other sports.

Sweet mother of god that was brutal. I hate it for that young lady. Dislocated knees can be catastrophic injuries.

That was hard to watch. Poor girl.

Thankfully she received immediate medical attention. Hopefully there was no damage to the arteries or nerves in either leg which would greatly increase the chance that they have to amputate.
All on a fairly routine tumbling pass she's probably done hundreds, if not thousands, of times. Just a terrible fluke injury.

I chose not to watch the video (for now) but saw a still photo that was horrifying. Is there an orthopedic surgeon on here (insert joke here) who could help explain/describe this event.
So sorry to see this young lady suffering and hope she is able to resume a normal life.

Yeah, that's what I said after watching it. Those soft tissue injuries in conjunction with breaks like that can be catastrophic.

This is fairly misleading.
Gymnastics is liable to the same amount of injuries as any sport, if not a little more such as boxing or wrestling.
A quick look on gym twitter and the larger community will reveal that this is the most gruesome freak accident in some time in the sport.
This is far from common.
