Everyone here is familiar with the Auburn DL. They are considered the top DL returning in 2019. They need no introduction on this board.

Oregon OL graded out as the #3 unit by PFF for 2018 in all CFB. They suffered no key losses to the unit from last year. New additions include Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu and Jonah Tauanu'u. Both of whom should compete on an already deep line.

Projected starters
:

LT Penei Sewell (6'6" 345): 7 starts
LG Shane Lemieux (6'4" 317): 38 starts
C Jake Hanson (6'5" 297): 37 starts
RG Dallas Warmack (6'2" 316): 12 starts
RT Calvin Throckmorton (6'5" 315): 38 starts

Key reserves:

RT Brady Aiello 6'7" 310 with 20 starts and LT/RT Steven Jones 6'7" 354 with the lone start as a true frosh are the two reserves with starts (153 starts between 7 players). Dallas Warmack is most likely to lose his starting status in a competition with Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu at RG. The latter early enrolled as the JUCO's #1 prospect, reshaped his body to a blithe 332 pounds and looked the part spring camp.

The stars:

Sewell is the crown jewel of this OL. Most mock 2021 drafts will have him top 10 and Cristobal is on record saying he's the best OL he's recruited. Kid is a prodigious talent. He was the best OL on the team day #1 as a true frosh.

Throckmorton is on some mock draft boards as a 1st rounder but I believe athleticism (length particularly) will drop him to the 2nd or 3rd round but he's a first round technician. Anchors really well in pass blocking and has a thick lower body.

Lemieux is a road grader at LG. He was the best graded run blocker in the Pac 12 by a wide margin. I can't see him going past the 3rd round.

My up and comer is Steven Jones. He needs to drop weight. If he commits himself to the weight room the sky is the limit. Even last year in his lone start against UCLA playing over 360 pounds (true frosh), he was the highest graded player on either team for the game by PFF. He is extremely heavy handed with quick feet but needs to shed pounds to stay healthy and to sustain that level.

Prediction:

I am going to give the edge to Auburn's DL with this being a first game and on a "neutral" site. However, I believe you will see fits and starts of what will be a great OL. This may be the best pass pro OL I have seen at Oregon, so to me Herbert not getting rattled and making some big time throws will be the key to this offense going.

Should be fun, Auburn fans....

Nice summary and it is much appreciated.

Here is my summary.

Cover your booty hole because the fullback whirly bird is coming and you can’t stop it. It’s gonna be an incomplete pass or an interception and you just have to accept it.

I hope it is a damn good game. I think Oregon is going to be tough.

Honestly, I think we can only beat Oregon if we get some type of rhythm on offense.

I think Oregon's offense will be scary good, but I think they will have some rust to shake off--- would much rather play them first than last.

You are kind of in the wrong place here. Not because you are not a SEC fan but because you actually are posting intelligent information. May want to seek another place.

But honestly, we are so new on offense and I am worried that the new young qb may be our issue. I believe our defense will hang around with the Oregon offense enough but can we score any points?

I honestly see this game a 4-7 point game right now to Oregon. Lets see how fall practice goes.

Key problem with you analysis. Oregon plays in the PAC-12. That O-line will get abused by Auburn. It’s going to get messy for the Ducks

Yep, I see Mario Cristobal being the difference. He'll know far more about AU-Gus than the other way round. Which is to say what's know about Auburn under Gus and what's Oregon's tendencies under Mario?

(in short - one has a clue and the other none)

The smart $ has got to be on Oregon...known commodity. With Auburn bringing in a brand new QB, either a RFR or a FR, that's going to be a very tough way to start a career under the big lights of Jerry-world.

That said, we all like what we saw from the 2 contenders, both 5* guys...one very much in the mold of Cam Newton (although I don't think anyone feels like he has a Heisman/NFL 1st round arm) and Bo Nix who would be more like a Kyler Murray...very athletic, not very big, great combination of dual threat talent, etc.. AU's offensive line is supposed to be much improved and has one of the top WR units in the country. Our starting RB, Boobie Whitlow started his first year last year and we all feel very good about him, as well as a couple of change of pace, 3rd down type backs in Kam Martin and Shaun Shivers...and DJ Williams is probably the 2nd every down back type.

Whitlow played well against Washington last year. If the offensive line can block and we are able to run the ball, we will be OK. The other factor is what Bio laid out with the defensive line VS Oregon offensive line. We need to generate some pass rush to keep them from passing downfield. That was a weak spot for us last year

will be an iron bowl for Warmack who could sniff PT at Bama and is now your starter. I don't know how you can call the Oregon OL one of the best when one of your starters couldn't start at Bama?

Auburn is going to skullfrick Oregon’s offensive line.

AU was missing an elite pass rusher last year. I felt our D was average with that piece missing and lack of experiance in the DBs. We will see how much work they put in during the off season.

I'd put the advantage for AU D line. The benefit of playing this game early is usually offenses sputter out of the gates during the season and I believe AU defense will cause more issues than oregon's. Granted our offense sputter most of last season I think Oregon's Defense is what you need to pay attention to. If AU puts up 24+ I believe it would be tough for oregon to win

Did you read? Warmack will most likely get beat out. Also, our best combination probably has Throck sliding to guard and Jones playing RT. That, or Sala wins the spot. Honestly Warmack’s footwork is sloppy, he can’t stay healthy and he’s capped by length. However, he did help Oregon out last season when we needed a one year stop gap at guard.

It's always fun to see two teams, with great overall speed, try and find their footing; being matched up so early in the year. You (hopefully) get to watch your team face adversity and grow from it LIVE, or you see what you're working with and drub the other team's will into the ground.

I remember we badly wanted Sewell. Love how Cristobal is recruiting the trenches for Oregon up there. You guys are going to maul people out West for the near future.

Is Warmack going to be a swing guard 1st off the bench type probably?

Compared to Gatewood, Nix is smaller. Nix, however, is over 6' tall and now weighs @ 215. He is plenty big.

He could very well start the Auburn game but if not I would expect him first off the bench. Kid squats damn near 700 pounds and committed no penalties in 619 snaps. He’s a redshirt senior so he provides some veteran savvy.

By the end of the year I don’t expect him to start unless he improves.
