Assistants really aren't as important to recruiting in CBB as they are in CFB, especially not when your HC is as charismatic as Bruce Pearl is and when you're currently having the success that Auburn is having.

Good to know. Avery's got a lot of charisma too, so I'm glad to hear it.

That and the fact both Purifoy and Wiley are going to come back equals another 20 plus win year

Its not a guarantee Wiley or purifoy will be back, some AU fans think neither will return. That said Auburn has been impressive and if pearl stays around they can sustain success. To the dumbarse comment about the SEC being down...Lol I have no words to express the level of cluelessness that statement is filled with. The conference is as tough as I've seen it, and it was damn tough in the 90s. Wouldn't surprise me if 2 teams end up in final 4 or at least the elite 8.

Actually those close to the situation know it is a 95% lock Wiley returns. Pfoy hasn't enough PT to prove a case worthy of NBA drafting.

I'm pretty sure all of these coaches that have been around the game their entire lives and make millions of dollars coaching, realize this. It's just much easier to say than to do.

It's coming in NCAA tournament..

does Auburn now have some staying power

It will all depend on Pearl. Finebaum interviewed someone today who said that he is finally talking (a little at least) to the school, when he wasn't before. That is, I think anyway, a positive sign for Auburn moving forward. If they have him for the long run, they'll do well.

Pearl is a great coach, and from what I've seen, a great guy. I've seen him do some things with some special needs people (that you don't read about) that brought a tear to my eye. I hate they have him.

's a theory. Just because a team isn't big, doesn't mean they can't play big. Auburn plays much bigger than the team's size. Last night we handled a physically gifted team while overcoming an off night in our strongest area, shooting.

I you must have overlooked the sentence where I said Auburn has a good team. Kentucky may not be a top 25 team this year but somewhere in the tournament when shooting is off someone will make you pay.

Assistants are a huge deal for CBB recruiting. The head coaches play a much bigger role than CFB for sure, but it generally is the assistants doing all the heavy lifting and locking kids in

That's because the school has stopped their posturing and giving him something closer to a fair shake.

Pearl may have his problems with coloring inside the lines of NCAA rules, but there is no doubt about his character off the court. He goes above and beyond to help charities, give back to the community and promote the university.

When today's game has a lot of coaches who detest their contractual obligations w/ the community or charity, Bruce Pearl actively seeks out ways to give back

Purifoy's return will be dependent on the NCAA. It will all depend on their ruling on his eligibility.

It's awesome that you reference Paul as if anything he says or occurs on his show matters.

Did you read the rest of it? It was a fairly important interview - and good for Auburn. Where Pearl was being standoffish with the school for a long time (which I would think you would NOT like as an AU alum or fan) and now he seems to be talking to them. That is great news for AU.

Thank you for that insight. If a team shoots poorly they will pay for it against other good teams. Man,

Who'd of thunk it?

Pearl is following the advice of legal counsel and it seemed to make our compliance department mad. They leaked the info. It's not simply an NCAA investigation.

They have good players and a good coach. They'll be consistently solid as long as he's there.

It's all about Pearl. If he stays we'll be fine. If he has to go we'll likely go backwards. Basketball is personality driven...Pearl has that and he can coach as well.

If we get Wiley back next year should be fun...if we get Purifoy as well next year could be exciting. I don't expect either to return. If that happens we will still be a bubble type team or a 6 seed if we shoot it well.
