Not trying to troll at all but I am wondering, does Auburn now have some staying power to do about as well or better in the next year or two or three?

Auburn is not a basketball school. Any school not named Kentucky, Duke or North Carolina can't depend on that type of consistency. It's not like football where your guaranteed three years of great players.

The FBI stuff is going to hurt recruiting, but as long as Pearl is here I hope we'll at least stay above .500 from now on.

Did you ask the same about SC when they went to the final four last year?

I guess my answer is it's to be determined and no one knows now.

I'm trying to stay sceptical but this is a young team without many future NBA stars.

That's gonna win us a lot of games in the next few years.

I don't watch much Bball, but I know they are like 23-3. Kentucky is probably the only school in the SEC who has the ability to string together back to back seasons like that.

I don't think AU needs to go 23-3 next year to avoid being a "One season wonder".

Making the post season on a consistent basis is what a program like AU should be judged on, not going 23-3 every year.

I guess the answer is no, but it would be the same for most everyone else.

Honestly, that's what every team should aspire for. This isn't some weird kind of knock on your season and it's a very good sign for the tourney but the regular season means diddly squat in basketball except getting you into the tourney. IOW- it's all about postseason.

We return everyone next year, have some solid recruits lined up for the year after and Bruce will be coaching still. I think we could be a tourney team for the next 3-5 years easily, even if we don’t have as good of seasons as we are having this year.

We should get everyone back (maybe not Heron) and add talent, depth and maybe size (depending on what Wiley does) to the roster.

So next year we should be pretty good. We will need to continue to land some top 100 recruits that buy in to keep it going beyond next season.

Well, we shouldn't be sub .500 in SEC play. It looks like we're gonna get pretty much everyone back, and we add some guys, particularly Samir Doughty (watch out for this guy). It would be HUGE if Wiley (who's cleared to play next season) came back. It would be this year's team but with an elite big man. If that happens (the ideal scenario) I expect Auburn to be compete again for the regular season title and make a solid run in the tourney

Edit: but like others have said, I would be completely happy if we make the tourney again.

A lot of schools can learn from Auburn on building a basketball program.

-They built a brand new state of the art arena in a scale that was appropriate for their program

-hired a proven winner and left him alone to build his program

Auburn absolutely can have staying power those denying this are delusional. Pearl is beyond proven.

Don't underestimate the persuasion powers of agents. I guarantee players from a top 10 team will leave earlier than they should. Enjoy it while it lasts but Steve Wonder could see PJ Dozier wasn't ready to go pro and he left after our run. I'd kill to have him back now and I'm sure he feels the same as he floats through the D league

I worry about the fan's true interest. Auburn is winning right now in a down SEC. They also happened to have a fun and exciting team to watch. This isn't boring, slow Purdue or Wisconsin basketball.

But, at the end of the day, Auburn's a football school. They are really no different than Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, etc. If they have a good year, that's great. Football is still on the fan's minds.

Ignoring the obvious - Kentucky, I think Tennessee, Arkansas, and especially Vanderbilt can make strides in becoming more of a "basketball school" than Auburn.

ETA: Vanderbilt should go "all in" and market itself as a baseball and basketball school.

How many teams do we have in the Top 10? Top 20? Top 25? The league is filled with a bunch of "okay" teams, no one great.

Down? This is the strongest SEC we've seen in years with as many as 8 teams slated to get to the tourney.

Disagree on a few things here....

1. The SEC is the strongest it has ever been (in terms of # of teams getting into the tourney)

2. Florida is also a football school, yet they became a successful basketball school. Same with Tennessee under Pearl.

3. If you have fan support (Auburn fans generally support our sports well...we were selling a lot of tickets even the previous 2 bball seasons).

No one is great. It's just a bunch of okay teams. Florida isn't that strong. Kentucky definitely isn't that strong. A&M and Arkansas went 0-2 against LSU. Tennessee is okay. Alabama is okay.

I mean, they teams aren't terrible, but no one is elite - Elite 8, Final 4 worthy.

We have a good chance to break our record of NCAA tournament teams. There aren't many "elite" teams but this league isn't easy to win this year by any means or "down".
