You need three things to be successful in College Basketball:
1. Good Coaching
2. Intimidating home court advantage
3. Talent rich recruiting base location
Over the years, AU has lacked at least two of the above, but now seem to have all three with Pearl.

The barn has 2 winning seasons in the past 8 years

Mainly because they lacked one or more things from my list. With Pearl they have all three.

about as well or better in the next year
The record won't be as good since SEC is getting better plus we play in Maui Invitational
We should be a better team next year though as we should return everyone + add 2 maybe 3 guys who could win starting roles
The 2019-20 season will be interesting. We will lose a decent bit of the rotation and will rely a lot more on guys currently in second team

Aren't they always? In everything?

This is the best the SEC has been in 10 years.

SEC is projected to shatter the previous record for NCAAT bids, yet you think it is a down SEC

I worry about the fan's true interest. ..... make strides in becoming more of a "basketball school" than Auburn.
Are you speculating on if bball can overtake football, or if Auburn is willing to support a basketball team both financially + fan energy?
Auburn's new crowd of large donors are people who experienced Auburn's best bball teams under either Sonny Smith or Cliff Ellis. The financial support for the program will definitely be there.
As for the fans, our arena setup + size mitigates any decreased enthusiasm. Our arena acoustics does a great job amplifying sound + our arena's smaller size makes it easy to fill up both student section + alumni seats

I'm starting to wonder if Auburn football's propensity to defy expectations, good or bad, might also apply to basketball. I mean, they were expected to be good, then lost two of their best players. Everyone then thought they'd struggle. Then, they have an historic season. Very Auburn.
Maybe they would have sucked with their full roster. And, I'm all for hyping their returning team next year.

No. We'll be better next season actually.
I believe that Bruce is setting up a solid foundation for sustained success, and that Auburn is committed to helping him achieve that. Obviously when I say sustained success, I dont think we are going to be top 10 and leading the SEC like this every year, but I think this program definitely has the potential to make the NCAAT and be in the top half of the conference more often than we don't accomplish those things... Now maybe that doesn't happen and Bruce's dumps us next year and we eventually slip back to the bottom. But with the roster currently in place, incoming players, and our current status on the recruiting trail, I expect us to be pretty good for at least the next 5 years minimum.
So no, this isn't a one season wonder. Sorry to disappoint you,

How many teams do we have in the Top 10? Top 20? Top 25? The league is filled with a bunch of "okay" teams, no one great.
And yet we'll likely set the record for most SEC teams in the NCAAT by two teams this year.

No, at least not next year. We're getting everybody back except maybe Austin Wiley. So if Bruce can recruit as well as he did the past 3 seasons, we'll be find.

Nah, we weren't even expected to be that good. Jon Rothstein for example had us at I think around #6 in SEC including Wiley/Purifoy

This is a product of good coaching and Peals emphasis on speed. AU would be different with those two players, but maybe not better. Is Bama better without Sexton ? Some people think so.

Assistants really aren't as important to recruiting in CBB as they are in CFB, especially not when your HC is as charismatic as Bruce Pearl is and when you're currently having the success that Auburn is having.
