Kentucky is probably the only school in the SEC who has the ability to string together back to back seasons like that.

Nah, there's another who did it recently.

There is 1 playing as good as anyone else in the country.

We are about to send the most teams the conference has ever sent to the tournament. If you think this is a down year in the sec, you don't understand sec basketball.

That is the dumbest statement I have seen in some time. Every pundit is saying the SEC is the toughest conference top to bottom and is better than its been in years.

Pearl would probably make them a above average team consistently in the SEC, which would mean fairly consistent NCAA tourney appearances and a run every now and then.

Pearl is the question though. Is he talking to the AU president yet? The university's attorneys? Something seems wrong with his relationship to the school administration in the wake of the FBI stuff. Is he good enough on the court to win a turf war with the school President? Does he even want to?

True, but he has all the leverage now. I suspect it gets worked out quietly in the off season.

I haven't watched a lot of college basketball lately but did watch Auburn/Kentucky and it seems to me back in the old days the way to expose Auburn is to slow the game down , hit the glass and reset shot clock it will frustrate them. I am not knocking Auburn they have a good team but that is the way I would play them.

Auburn will not make it past the Sweet 16.

Maybe "down" isn't the best term, however (aside from Auburn), we don't have any great teams. Can you look at these teams we're sending in the tournament and definitively say that they'll make it to or past the sweet 16?

I can't.

No one is great. It's just a bunch of okay teams. Florida isn't that strong. Kentucky definitely isn't that strong. A&M and Arkansas went 0-2 against LSU. Tennessee is okay. Alabama is okay.

I mean, they teams aren't terrible, but no one is elite - Elite 8, Final 4 worthy.
There aren't any elite teams, but the conference is damn sure not "down" this season. Compared to any other time in conference history, this is the overall strongest SEC I've ever seen in a single season.

I'm not a BB fan by nature, but I have enjoyed the hell out of watching SECBB this year. Auburn was rocking last night, a very exciting game to watch...the UGA/UF game was good as well...even Vandy's last second score was great to watch.

It is.

This team is as resilient and poised as any I've seen.

I'm pretty sure all of these coaches that have been around the game their entire lives and make millions of dollars coaching, realize this. It's just much easier to say than to do.

Did you put South Carolina in the Final Four last year?

We have one scholarship senior who was not on scholarship until a month ago, so I imagine we are good next year too unless the NCAA fricks us.

This is a prediction based on very little statistical support. Without knowing seeding or matchups, it's just a hope.

I can't look at any team in the country and say the will definitely make it past the sweet 16. I see at least 6 SEC teams capable (AU, UT, ATM, Bama, UF, and UK; maybe Mizzou as well).

Nevertheless, your statement that AU was winning a down SEC is silly and trying to move the goal posts to a discussion about the NCAA tournament isn't going to help.

Pearl has tons of leverage.
1 - He has his team at the top, w/out two of his best players and a couple of last yrs coaches
2 - He has a brand new President that hit campus in July and the FBI blew up in Sept. - time is on BP's side
3 - He has a brand new boss and the new AD is a welcome change compared to the former
4 - He has "his" attorneys on his side advising him to STFU till the Feds are done

It's a theory. Just because a team isn't big, doesn't mean they can't play big. Auburn plays much bigger than the team's size. Last night we handled a physically gifted team while overcoming an off night in our strongest area, shooting.

They rebound bigger than they play. They defend relentlessly. They make free throws and draw fouls. I realize it is natural to be negative against a rival or school you don't like, but it is hard to watch Auburn 2018 basketball and not appreciate what this team is doing.

I don't like bama, but I can admit they are talented, long and athletic and on any given night could beat anyone. I also realize they are young and it causes them issues at times as well.

It is totally dependent on whether Pearl is still our coach next year. If he is back we will be a contender to win the conference. If not then we be back to playing on the 1st day of the SEC tournament. I'm of the opinion that he will be back and hopeful that after long tenure that he can transform the perception of our program enough to where we can attract coaches and players based on our name but that is all tbd.

We'll keep most of our roster more than likely. Will still have the same coach. We might be like 2-3 year wonder but not a 1 year wonder.

Honestly I think it depends on what other programs are implicated. It may work to our favor that we were in the first round of indictments and have a chance to get out in front of it. If other programs, particularly the bluebloods, are roped in it may not hurt us as badly as previously thought.

Staying power? AU can return this entire team currently and add Wiley, Purifoy and Doughty. If that happens then Auburn is without a doubt a top 5 team. Not sure if it happens but AU is currently set up to be a better team next year than this team.
