Not trying to make this a morality contest, but when all of these assistant coaches start announcing on Dec. 22 that they've taken new jobs, the day after National Signing Day, I just hope that they receive the same scrutiny that players in the transfer portal are.

The transfer portal and NIL are sleazy, but coaches who leave right after signing day after recruiting a bunch of kids to the school under the premise that they'd be one of their coaches is even sleazier. By a factor of at least 5 or 10.

Sayin commented that O'Brien told him he may have a different OC. He committed to the program and Saban.

eta that Sayin is a 2024 commit

Sports leagues in general are sleazy. If it weren’t for the geographical ties that fans felt, it wouldn’t be as a big a thing. Wanting your team to win allows for a lot of ugly things to get ignored

Personally I can't imagine a scenario where I'd ever stop watching college football and ever stop thinking that college football was the best sport there is. But to each their own.

Coaches tend to communicate to the recruits that coaches assistants coordinators etc get hired and fired on an annual basis, you don't commit to a coach, you commit to a program. And recruits tend to already know this, but the recruiting coaches reiterate it for good measure.

Me either but I would be lying if I said most of the changes, such as super conferences with members 2k miles apart, devaluation of the bowl system, unfettered transfers without penalty, and payments to amateurs for playing a sport in which they already get a full ride scholarship complete with the many perks said scholarship entails has dulled my interest to a degree. I still watch but not as closely. It may as well be the NFL minor league now and I despise all the NFL stands for. As you said, to each his own.

That’s how UGA landed Roquan Smith. He was headed to UCLA until it leaked that his position coach was hired by the Falcons.

Whatever stability the system will have in the future relies on you. No matter how closely it comes to resemble minor league baseball, keep your resolve.

The transfer portal and the NIL has officially taken the very little dignity college football had left. College football has always been filled with sleeze ball coaches that would say and do anything to land recruits. Would you call the playing field even now that players can up and leave whenever and participate in the sleezy behavior LOL?

The early signing day made it worse. This was done primarily to accommodate early enrollment in January.

I will never understand this sentiment. Subtle brag but related to the topic: my daughter is currently picking doctorate programs and Miami is flying her out and giving her a hotel for three days while they sell her on their program. If she goes there, they’ll pay her $30K on top of free tuition for living expenses. Mostly she’ll just be working on her doctorate, but she will have some responsibility in years 3-5 as a GA.

Athletes have a far greater draw on their time than she will and far less flexibility in managing those hours, but if someone proposed that the school should give each of them $30K some people would flip out.

I just don’t get it. Be mad at free transfer without penalty. Don’t be mad at school or NIL payments.

Never say never….. while I agree it will take a lot to make me stop watching.m, there is always a limit

But also don’t underestimate how changes can affect the play of the game either.

NFL has changed over time and honestly I rarely watch a game anymore. Loved watching MLB and NBA in 80s/90s but free agency killed that

Point is, don’t don’t drastically change something that is working

I think it is apples and oranges when comparing coaches and players. The NIL and general wokeness has screwed everything up and I am watching less and less college athletics now.

But it is not my demographic they should be worried about, it is the younger generation. I am not sure that the typical student who can get into Florida is that big of a football fan any longer.

My generation is going to be out with quickness if they continue to put woke commercials with dudes kissing.

I thought it would be another 5 years or so, but I think it will be less than 3 and I won't be watching at all.

Tbh, I’m not sure you’re even subtle bragging by comparing her actual educational accomplishments with that of a ball player.

LOL. That observation got several downvotes. I guess rival fans no likey the fact that Alabama will have a better OC next season.
