quote:

We’ve seen this at Auburn for the better part of four decades now, and the playbook for change never ever wavers.

Attack professionally, attack personally, attack character and integrity.

Then write a fat buyout check and start over.

“I’ve coached everywhere and have seen everything,” a former Auburn assistant coach told me. “But I’ve never seen a more dysfunctional place.”

quote:

To understand how we got to this point after 1 season under Harsin is to understand the Auburn Way. Which, of course, is not to be confused with the Auburn Family.

A university overflowing with genuine, salt-of-the-earth people (Auburn Family), overrun by a select few big on cash and short on principle (Auburn Way).

quote:

Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville, Gene Chizik, Gus Malzahn. All had winning records as coaches at Auburn, all either won a national title, played for a national title or coached an unbeaten season.

All were forced out.

This next quote is not a good look for auburn
quote:

In December of 1992, on the day he was hired, Terry Bowden says he was given a ledger by a holdover assistant coach from the former staff that detailed player names and money owed to each, and the plan to continue the process.

I know this because I’ve seen the very ledger Bowden took from his office the day he resigned in 1998. I sat in Bowden’s home office in Orlando years ago, and saw the names and the numbers and how business was done at Auburn.

“See that look on your face?!” Bowden screamed. “Same look I had on my face when first saw it!”

Bowden said he told the assistant coach to pay off the players, and never do it again. Now, fast forward 30 years to Harsin, and the culture shift from the day he accepted the job.

And of course the first thing is to blame the REC and Alabama for all of their self inflicted wounds....morons.

The weird thing about is all the former coaches come back and live it Auburn. Gus being an exception at the moment, but he’s coaching elsewhere.

And I'm supposed to sit here and believe that this isn't happening at the University of Alabama as well?

Gus being the exception

Pretty sure Gus still has a lake house they go to quite frequently.

Chizik left his entire family in Auburn even when he was coaching at UNC.

Weve had the same coach for 14 years or so now. Youre on your 3rd (so far) since we hired Saban.

Yep.

Tuberville’s kids finished at Lee Scott Academy. Gus’s sister in law is still in Auburn.

But that’s the point of the article. Auburn is a unique, special place with mostly good people. It’s the few big money men that frick things up.

You all might think this is some revelation coming to light, but we’ve been aware for decades.

If its been happening for decades why do auburn fans always deny it? Own it if you know about...auburn fans are cowards

Auburn really should have kept Gus.

You can not tell me whatever clown they get to take this job after Harsin is a better option.

I have zero doubts that Bowden was doing it also. I am shocked he was so surprised given his dad and brother were probably both doing it too. I don't buy that story tbh

The story is crap from that angle. Acting like this is or was something unique to Auburn is just silly.

The Bowden ordeal still has to be the most bizarre of all. Some really crazy rumors, and we'll probably never know what actually went down.
