I haven't talked to anyone who has wanted Gus too terribly, so whatever I guess. I think you may be confusing the Arkansas fans trolling Auburn over taking their coach, with people who actually want Gus.
You want to know what I find an odd trend? The way fans from supposed hated rivals in Alabama and Auburn alternately knight for and dickride each other at almost every opportunity. Let someone outside of the fambly throw shade at either, and invariably a bunch of you queers come in to the other's rescue. I'm thinking all of you might be more comfortable as fans of aTm. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You're damn right. Auburn has had more recent success than anyone not named Alabama. Malzahn has had more success against Saban than anyone else currently coaching in the SEC. Our friends in Tuscaloosa know this. We might give each other shite, but secretly, the State of Alabama sticks together when insulted by a second-rate fanbase.
There are some shitty, boneheaded fans on both sides. And we should be competitive and throw shade now and then. It's part of it. But many of us, especially those of us in the event/tourism industry, know the state does well when both teams succeed. I've done work for the Saban family, and they have literally said the same thing to me personally. Some rabid fans argue that coaches hate the guys across the state, but in reality, it's just a business.

What? Did you even see any of the uga threads last week. Bama fans were in there piling on like they had just won the World Series.

So, you have some fans shooting each other, while the majority are sucking each other off. And you folks find things about other fanbases odd?

Arkansas - seriously, the only way Gus ends up at Arkansas is if Auburn fires him. Let's be honest guys - AU job > > > Arkansas job. It just is, so stop pretending they're on par with each other - and I'm an Alabama fan, so trust me when I say it as I have no love for Auburn. If this were the 70s, then the argument might swing the other way, but at least since the 90s Auburn has been head and shoulders better a destination than Arkansas. Minimum. It's just... weird, honestly. You're so desperate to get rid of Bert that you'd take Auburn's hand-me-downs, and that's... Well, it's just sad. You're a storied program, act like it.
Um I am a Alabama fan too, Both Programs are average so I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Other than the fact that Arkansas is the team of their state and Auburn is 2nd fiddle to Alabama. So with that I would say Arkansas>>>AU job. Also Gus is from Arkansas, its his team. If you had a chance to coach at Alabama and you were currently coaching some other school, what would you do?

85% of D-I football players attend college within 4 hours of their home. That and that alone makes Auburn a more attractive job. It's about Jimmy's and Joe's not X's and O's.

Okay tell me what so special about auburn. They have forever lived in Alabama's shadow in this state. How many National Championships have you guys won? How many 10 win season do you guys average? How many undefeated season do you guys have as well.
You have always been an average program.

Not for the majority of my life:
80s Auburn was the better team, got screwed out of another NC in '83
90s Bama was the better team, but not by much
00s Auburn by a wiiiiide margin
10s Bama is the better team, but Auburn has won and went to another NC

More than anyone else in the country the past 35 years. That's all

Shouldn't be too hard to grasp that reasonably intelligent and sane AU & UA fans are rivals that would share mutual respect.
Rival friends and coworkers are commonplace. Even "mixed marriages" (AU & UA) and families are also very common.
So, it's not all that odd that some AU and UA fans actually root for their #1 rival except in the Iron Bowl.

I don't want Gus anywhere near the Arkansas job. Now Trooper and the bag man are more than welcome.

After listening to 5 years of them with the Gus/hate obsession, it's beautiful seeing some do a complete 180 while others are hanging on to the Gus hate with all they've got.
Definitely odd turn of events.
They were all in with Bert and it has broken them.

Auburn is a easily a top 12 program all-time...in what world would that be average?

"How you like ours?"
You obviously do not really have the concept of sloppy seconds down yet. In your case it is more like a really hot girl dumped your azz and wen to the big city. Decided she did not like the big city and moved back to the country. Not to your country town, but the one right down the road, where she started dating the much better looking, well endowed cowboy. Now, if you had run her off that would be different, but she left on her own, in search of something better.
Now, if Gustaus decides he wants to dilly in the Akransas gene pool, without first going to the big city, or if Auburn decides they have had enough of her "chit" and sends Gustaus on the road, then in fact, Arkansas would be dillying in sloppy seconds.

Watching people outside of Arkansas try to talk about this part of the coaching search feels roughly the same as watching a retard try to do math. You tell them over and over but the poor little thing just doesn't learn.
