Arkansas and Vandy have played 7 times since 1992. Or 1978. Whichever.

Georgia refuses to play us tho. We still need to go play Kentucky at their place.

Both programs played in a lot of close games that decided the conference title and a trip to the Cotton Bowl. Texas won the majority of them but it is a far cry than the domination that Bama has over Arkansas.

One of the things I liked about this rivalry was my grandpa was a big Hog fan and my uncle Woody was from Baytown, texas who was married to my aunt Dorothy Nell who was my mother’s sister. My grandfather passed away and my grandmother was remarried to grandpa.

Grandpa was a huge church going man who went anytime the doors were open while Woody was a hard drinking oil field man. They would go back and forth on the phone about the games but no matter what happened they were family with each other.

They enjoyed the series and to many it was missed when we left the SWC .

Guess one would have had to been there and lived it to appreciate it.

Bear in mind those teams were also very good depending on the era in which they played in.

Rice yes Rice had one of the largest stadiums and was a solid program in the SWC until both Arkansas and Texas began to rise. Before that it was TCU and SMU. Tulsa was and is a very solid football program. They gave Arkansas and other bigger programs plenty of tough games during the regular seasons.

I think Arkansas would rather play Okstate OOC every year than Mizzou with how close Tulsa and Stillwater are to Fayetteville. The Greeks travel to both campuses for Row Week and Calf Fry, there’s a good number of alum in Dallas too for both sides.

Older fans back in the day and still to this day hate Ole Miss.

The series was so heated and for a brief time more than Texas. They had to cancel the series for 20 years.

We do have significantly more history playing Okie State in football than Mizzou.

Did a Beer Olympics with Okie State while at Arkansas. Easily one of my favorite college experiences.

We’ve played y’all 46 times and I’d rather you be in the conference than them since you are better overall sports wise.

Keep it simple. At least Arkansas had glory years, Mizzou was the cupcake being pounded by OU and Nebraska in those “glory years”.

Now…both teams are mid tier at best in football, and Arkansas fans just don’t care much about playing an irrelevant team at the end of the year when there is nothing on the line other than a Liberty Bowl berth.

It’s not that we look down on Mizzou….I mean we do as does everyone….it’s frustration with our own problems that lead to the apathy.

We realize y’all are really excited about winning some games that don’t matter. I think we’d rather win them than lose them also….but it isn’t really what we are concerned about.

I don’t feel like we are “too good” to have “lowly” Mizzou as a rival. Y’all have performed way better than I expected you would entering the conference and have kicked out arse since then. It’s just that I don’t get excited about playing y’all. It’s not meant as an insult to you or your program in any fashion. I think a rival has to be a team or fanbase that you dislike or one that you have a long history competing against, which adds excitement to the matchup. Our game just doesn’t have that, even though they are trying to pump up the Battleline Rivalry and have a Bazzle trophy. It just seems contrived, simple as that. Most Razorback fans recognize that y’all have had our number lately but don’t really see ourselves as being superior even though thats what you are trying to twist this into. We just don’t give a shite about playing Mizzou. Maybe we should make it more of a focus so we could win a couple.

Every remnant of Jeff Long needs to be removed from the program. We’re slowly getting there but the fake Mizzou rivalry sticks to us like a seed tick.

Problem is not that we’re too good for Mizzou but that I do think we’re a program with a rich history, making it impossible for outsiders like Jeff Long to under why we’ll never buy into an artificial moneygrab rivalry.

Mizzou gets the bad end of the stick from us because we see their fans actually buying into a rivalry we don’t want anything to do with. It’s really not y’all’s fault. Before 2012 I had a lot of respect for Mizzou overall, especially in basketball. Now it’s just associated in my head with Jeff Long frickery.

By the way if outperforming us and beating us head to head more times than not since 2012 is the standard for a rivalry, then we’d be rivals with about every P5 school in the country

I fully expect the series to be relatively close over the long run, both teams have been bad to terrible since at least 2015. Y'all seem like you made the first good coaching hire between the schools since Pinkel left Mizzou, so Arkansas might get some licks in if Drink can't figure it out here in the next season or two.

I think it would be a good rivalry because:

(1) Proximity and cultural similarity: the states obviously border each other, but also share the Ozarks. A lot of kids in the southern part of Missouri end up heading to Arkansas for school because it's a lot closer to home than Mizzou. There is a natural rivalry to form there. Mizzou is the third closest P5 campus to Arkansas and the closest SEC campus by nearly 100 miles.

(2) Almost mirror image SEC football programs. See my OP, since joining the SEC, Mizzou and Arkansas are the most similar schools in terms of SEC win/losses. The schools also have similar success (or perhaps difficulties) recruiting, and have similar ceilings and floors: both can field strong teams, but neither can get over the hump and win an SEC championship.

(3) Someone to fill the void and we are the right fit for each other. Mizzou's true rival is obviously Kansas, but I don't see that game ever coming back on an annual basis, unfortunately. Nebraska is our other historic rival, but much like LSU or Texas to Arkansas, those games are usually a bit one-sided and the all-time series does not reflect a competitive rivalry. Arkansas does have a competitive rivalry with A&M, but those Aggies are so fixated on everything burnt orange, that y'all will always be a second thought to them. That's only going to get worse with Texas entering the conference.
