A "per capita" argument makes no sense for a population group with a finite size. We are only looking for a certain number of military members and not everyone who volunteers is able to join. This might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen someone try to argue.
No point debating with you unless you pull your head out of your rear. Enjoy the game!

were we supposed to illegally deny them entry because of their skin?
the Indian population explosion in Texas this century is not because of the University of Texas.
All under good old conservative Republican leadership, btw

I'm sorry I so easily demolished your nonsensical point.

By your own argument, extrapolate to the prison population by race that's draining our economy. You will then be singing the tune of per capita.

The big cities in Texas are some of the most diverse cities in the world. I love being able to eat any variety of foods here in Houston and people all get along for the most part. I’ve lived many places but none have the community we have here in Houston. Houston strong.
Some folks on tRant are pretty pathetic in their racism/jealousy. Grow up kids.

Except that is a situation where using per capita numbers makes sense. There is no cap on the number of criminals. The number of criminals is limited only by whether or not people choose to commit a crime and whether or not the police are able to prove who committed said crime.
By contrast, the number of people in the military is finite. We cannot accept everyone who applies to join the military.

This is the real answer but racist white people can’t handle that
Nice anti-white racism there yourself. White students make up 30% of high school students in Texas. Should it not be at least 30% of the students at the University of Texas be white?
I don't see anywhere near 30% white students in that Texas student section.
Are you actually trying to say white kids can't compete and get in the top 7% of high school classes? I'm sorry but I fully and completely reject that opinion. There are plenty of white kids who would put those Indian and Hispanic kids to shame. Not saying there aren't intelligent Indian, Hispanic, Asian and Black kids in Texas, there are, but you are essentially saying there are no kids in the top 7% of high school classes in Texas. Sorry but I don't believe that for a second.
My opinion is that DEI is trying to get more non-white kids in at Texas. Plus you probably have minorities in the university leadership that push for more minority students. Funny how that racism is allowed. It's all about replacement long term.

I love being able to have a variety of foods as well, and on an individual basis, diversity isn't bad.
But you have to see that we are going the same way as Europe in terms of becoming foreigners in our own country.
I also think people like you always pounce on white people anytime a white person shows any racism, while you ignore black, hispanic, asian and middle easterners anytime they show racism.
Let me remind you, white people in the last 50 years are the first people in the history of humanity to put their own race last. Every other race still puts their own people first.
What do you think would happen if the roles were reversed? How do you think India would react if say over the next 10 years they had 30 million white people move to India? How do you think Mexico would reach if they had 30 million white people move to Mexico?
I think we all know how these countries would react. So in all seriousness, answer the following question. Why is it okay for all other races to protect their countries, but it's not okay for countries that are white to protect themselves?
Why is it only the U.S., Canada and Europe that are expected to "embrace diversity"? Why aren't places like the Middle East, Africa, India, China, Japan, Brazil, Mexico or Egypt expected to embrace diversity? In these types of discussions, I feel like this is the question no one on the left ever wants to answer.

Lol. No. Cultural differences with regard to childhood education are very real.
As someone very familiar with high schools in TX with a huge percentage of high achieving East and South Asian kids. South and East Asian families push their kids HARD from a very young age to get every possible point on every single test/quiz/assignment possible. Often at the expense of extracurricular activities, sports, social lives with friends, etc.
Those kids go after the top grades on everything all the time, and go hard for the top spots in the class ranking. As a result it is not surprising they are over-represented in the top percentages of their class, which in Texas, directly correlates with admission to UT, and to a somewhat lesser extent A&M (for now).

Yeah because that mentality has created so many well rounded individuals. Yes let's reward the same mentality that has caused Japan to have the highest burnout and su*cide rate in the world.
I thought universities considered more than just pure class rankings and GPA's? I thought universities wanted students who were well rounded and particiapated in extra-curricular activities? Not students who are all book smart and have no street smarts. Not students who can ace a test, but can barely hold a conversation with another person.
And you don't think there are plenty of white families that push their kids hard? I know for a fact there are plenty of white families who literally don't accept anything less than top 5 in their class. My youngest nice graduated second in her class and my family was thrilled. We actually felt bad for the Valedictorian. She finished first because her family made it clear anything less than Valedictorian was not acceptable. Not surprising, she seemed more relieved than happy.
I still fully reject your premise though. And if we go by DEI standards, then 30% of students at Texas universities, regardless of GPA's and class standings, should be white.
Again, if the situation was reversed, someone like you would be screaming bloody murder.

You clearly are unfamiliar with the Top 10% law in TX, though UT-Austin has a waiver to limit this to Top 6% at this point, unless its been ratcheted down further than that.
UT by law cannot reject any applicant in the top 6% of their class. A&M cannot reject any applicant in the top 10%. The universities have no choice in that. Nothing else matters.
I do agree 100% about well rounded-ness. Could I push my kid to active that level of academic success? Sure. Do I? Absolutely not. It's more important to me to have my kid be a well rounded human with a bright future and a fulfilling life. I have accepted the reality that the cost of that is that her odds of going to UT or A&M are near zero. I'm actively saving for out of state / private school tuition costs, and I'm good with that.
But whining about the demographics not being exactly correlated is whiny loser bitch boy mentality. We all chart our paths in this life. We enjoy the successes we strive for, and we accept the absence of those we dont. Thats real life. Earn it or STFU. At the moment high academic achievement in TX high school is earned at a higher rate by East and South Asians. So be it.

You're right, I'm not familiar with the top 10% law in Texas. That definitely provides better insight, and makes me think less about education in Texas. That they would rather have kids who have no skills except for acing tests instead of well rounded students. It's a terrible rule.
You are doing the right thing, allowing your kid to be well-rounded. Like you said, she'll have a brighter future and a better life than those kids who spend their entire childhoods having to get 100% on tests and who learn no other useful skills. I've seen and had to manage some of these Indian people myself in my Company. Indian kids who were the "brightest" in their high school class. Almost every time, their lack of ability in terms of even basic communication skills, reading the room and anticipating issues is just incredible. All book smart, no street smarts.
And I think it's really sad that you have to choose that for your daughter. To essentially make the decision of pushing academic success, cutting out all other activities and probably making her miserable just to get her into UT or A&M. Or like you decided, let her be well rounded and have to send her to another public / private college in Texas or out of state.
I will disagree with you on the whining. You are right, we chart our paths in life. But it doesn't mean we don't get the right to call things out when they clearly aren't fair and are biased.
I would say Texans should be fighting that top 10% law. The law should be that state universities have (within a certain margin of error, of course) a student body that is very close to the high school population. So if 30% of high school seniors in Texas are white for example, then 30% of that incoming freshman class that next year should be white.
There has to be some protection of the culture. Think about it this way, let's say 20 million white Americans moved to Japan and their parents pushed them even harder the Japanese parents. Maybe even to the point where 20-30% of the top students were white. Do you think for a second Japanese universities would allow 20-30% of their students to be white? Don't think for a second they wouldn't have guaranteed safeguards for Japanese students. You and I know, if that situation had occurred, at most those universities allow maybe 5 - 10% of their students to be white.
Same thing with countries like China, India, etc. They will flat out protect their ethnic populations.

Disagree 100%. I do not like the Top 10% law for a number of reasons. But to say it is biased is nonsense. It is the epitome of UNbiased. The rules are the rules. There is no special treatment for anyone.
What you are asking for is the definition of entitlement mentality. Reserving a portion of spots for white people, because they're white. To achive some sort of visual balance based on nothing but skin color is the very definite DEI thinking, just in the direction you personally prefer it. Equality of outcome, regardless of performance.
You are what you claim to despise.
