this is one of the silliest and most overblown fallacies in sports. As if playing a team ranked #2 or #3 would make your team somehow give less effort or try less hard.
"We're playing Texas this weekend, I'm frickin pumped!"
What are they ranked?
"2nd in the country! Undefeated, Heisman candidate at QB. We're fired up!"
Ohhh....2nd, you say? Not #1? I mean what's the point then? Who cares how good they are if they aren't #1?
"Well, yeah when you put it like that I guess you're right. Maybe I'll play xbox all week instead of going to practice or studying game film."

Did you hear about how the divisions were removed and the schedule was drastically changed this year?

Did you not read the rest of his post?

Yes I did. It revolves around a false equivalency.
The SEC divisions/ scheduling format from the past 20 years does not exist.
So mentioning the past 20 years is irrelevant.

I'm fairly certain there are still road games in the SEC, thus his point "if that team had to play SEC road games they'd never be undefeated" relating to strength of schedule still stands. Divisions have very little to do with "road game environments" to which SEC fans have screamed would be much tougher.

Why did this post have to happen? Once again, the arrogance from our fan base is enough to make even a Longhorn fanatic nauseous.

Too bad y'all don't play anyone until a mediocre Oklahoma team, and UGA. The rat of your schedule is soft as baby shite. Y'all gonna get exposed.
Don't hang your hat on that Michigan team either, they suck blue whale balls and are terrible. UGA will be glad to welcome y'all in proper fashion

It’s nice to have another alpha dog in the conference besides Georgia. Congrats on meaningless ranking. Don’t mistake my dismissal of your ranking for jealousy. Bama has been ranked #1 so many times and honestly it’s rat poison.

Why did this post have to happen? I don’t know… Possibly because the AP polll gets posted here every week?
Arrogantly, I decided to have a bit of fun with the thread title.
Sport, you need to grow a pair.

I enjoy seeing the #1 next to Texas but it’s really pointless 3 weeks in.

Like it or not, agree or disagree, Texas is #1
"SEC! SEC! SEC!"
"The Gauntlet"
"Line of scrimmage league"
"SEC Speed"
"It just means more"
"Hostile Environment"
Texas v. the Blue Bloods of College Football
Oklahoma has SCOREBOARD over Texas, 2023
(Texas won 49-0 in 2022)
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Michigan, 2024
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Alabama, 2023
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Ohio State, 2019
Texas has SCOREBOARD over USC, 2018
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Notre Dame, 2016
Texas v. the Blue Blood wannabees of College Football
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Georgia, 2019
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Nebraska, 2010
Texas has SCOREBOARD over Tennessee, 1969
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Texas is the only team to play all the Blue Bloods in the last 10 years.
Texas has ended Blue Blood winning streaks of:
Michigan, 23 games
Alabama, 21 games, 43 non-conf games
USC, 34 game streak in 2006
Ohio State, 36 game non-conf games
and Nebraska, 47 game home streak in 1998

I'm confused by you posting this.
You haven't played a SEC game yet. How does where Texas is ranked relate to the SEC at all if you haven't actually experienced any SEC games yet?

I didn't post that, but imo it means..
Texas is ranked #1 because we beat Alabama last year.. the team that won the SEC Championship last year.
While I don't necessarily agree with all of that, imo if Texas hadn't won that game last year, I don't believe we would have made the playoffs last year, and I don't believe we would be #1 right now.
Right or wrong, that game combined with the Michigan game, is the foundation for where we are right now. Well that, and the fact that we have a damn good team this year.
Either way, we will find out in the next month whether we belong in the Top 5 or not.
