The one tough team on your schedule is from the SEC, and they're breaking in a new young quarterback

Of course we started an even younger qb in that game, does this cope apply to us also or do only sec teams get this pass?

Outside of the top few sec teams, the rest are just as mediocre as the middle big ten teams.

I’ve got no problem with OSU and Indiana being highly ranked. Very good teams by any measure. Beyond that, not so much. Michigan is 3rd in Big10 and lost by double digits to Oklahoma, SEC’s 6th place team. Northwestern is an upper-middle Big10 team that lost by 20 to Tulane. Apart from Bama’s first-week loss to FSU, no SEC team has lost any games to an unranked out of conference opponent.

The same can’t be said about B1G. In fact the SEC has lost only 6 out of conference games total, four of them by Florida and Arkansas, to Notre Dame, Miami, Memphis, and South Florida. Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern are middle to upper-middle tier B1G teams and have lost to unranked out-of-conference teams, with no notable wins.

There isn’t anything remotely comparable between the “middle” teams of the SEC and Big 10. The closest comparison between a “middle” SEC team with the Big 10 is that middling Texas lost to you by one score, in your house, early in the season. Play that game again now and the result might (or might not) change.

OSU and Indiana are very good programs. Oregon might prove to be decent but hasn’t yet this year. The rest of the Big 10 is mediocre at best, but mostly hot garbage.

Notre Dame has one ranked win, USC.
USC has zero ranked wins.

Going by current rankings...

#3 A&M has one ranked win vs Notre Dame.

#4 Bama has four ranked wins vs Georgia, Vandy, Mizzou, and Tennessee.

#5 UGA has two ranked wins vs Ole Miss and Tennessee

#7 Ole Miss has one ranked win vs OU

#11 Oklahoma has two ranked wins vs Michigan and Tennessee

#13 Texas has two ranked wins vs OU and Vandy

#15 Vandy has one ranked win and it's Mizzou.

#19 Mizzou has zero ranked wins.

#23 Tennessee has zero ranked wins.

I'm honestly not sure why Tennessee is still ranked considering they now have 3 losses and are giving up 31+ points a game to FBS schools.

A lot is just brand names. If you have the right brand name, you'll hang around in the rankings until they can't defend keeping you there.
If you don't, they can't wait to drop you out.

It still surprises me we are ahead of the whorns.

Me as well, seems like head-to-head should count for something. But doesn’t really matter in the end if we both keep winning.

They are going to be in the playoff, and if you have to play them, they're going to beat the crap out of you

You play a cupcake schedule and every game is still a nail biter. What do you honestly expect? The self entitlement is crazy.

Lol, this kind of argument gets old real fast.

You know they jockey the rankings to actually help the SEC out don't you?

tOSU probably won't repeat, but you know they're one of the nation's elite programs, like Bama & Georgia, who also have cream puffs on the schedule every year.

They start with 9 or 10 ranked, then spend the last 3/4s of the year playing each other. How could they have any fewer?

Ole Miss should be ahead of Oregon, not that it matters.
Notre Dame should be outside the 12 but I understand
Texas too high
Georgia Tech dropped too far

Is that so? Domers have never scared me at all. In fact a few years back one of the worst Texas teams of the past 20 years (we didn't have a real #1 QB and true imbecile OC) years was able to send them home with an L...and they were top 10 at the time iirc.

Does beating Texas make you feel better about your conference? It shouldn't.
