If you look you will see several SEC teams listed, but no very high. The reason is that the SEC teams played one another and knocked the others down the rankings. The other top teams did not have the same problem, and thus were able the stay closer to the top.
It is a matter of scheduling (and the weakness of the other conferences) that caused the ranking to look like that.

I'll gladly be a fan of OU's past successes.
The 47 game winning streak is still unbroken today, back to back Heisman trophy winners, lots of Sooners are killing it in the NFL, lots of wins, recent bowl wins, high draft picks. Sure its been 21 years since OU won the title, but I still have the 2000 Orange Bowl National Championship game recorded on a VHS cassette and the multiple Sports Illustrated magazines from that season. That's timeless college football treasure.
You be a fan of Bama and I'll gladly root for the Sooners.

Flawed statistic. What are the percentage of African Americans that go to college? How many of those choose to apply to Texas or Texas A&M? What percentage of those meet academic requirements at Texas A&M? How many scholarship programs and grants are available to African Americans vs whites?
There are so many more factors to consider other than 12% of population vs percentage of students at any particular school. This is all party of the equity vs equality argument.
