I can appreciate the legacy SEC's comments on here that find it weird and a bit forced and not an exact culture fit because, well, it isn't...

Texas is unique in that we are in "The South" but not exactly Southerners in the homogenous way that the antebellum South like Georgia, SoCar, Alabama, Mississippi are for sure and some of Tennessee.

Texas is so large and culturally independent and self-referential we should really be our own conference (and probably have the number of D1 schools to pull it off), but sort of a no-man's land in college football.

Not Southern enough for the SEC, not midwest for the Big10, and while the beginning of the Southwest, not Western enough for the Pac12 (pre-implosion).

So, like a lot of you guys, we just grin and bear it as a best case outcome even if our culture and values don't exactly match.

Texas A&M:

While shamed, belittled, harassed, and hounded by virtually every fanbase of other SEC teams due to their proclivity towards promoting homosexuality with the milkmen and all that, they stand tall.

They don't wilt and shrivel up like fans of many teams do when faced with withering criticism from all corners. They rely on each other for support and could care less what others think of them and seem to get a great deal of joy out of supporting their team, even though there has been very little to be joyful about. That's admirable.

Overall, they seem more likable than Texas fans or Oklahoma fans.

Damn it. While noting that this might be the most backhanded compliment I've seen in a time, that shite is funny.

I respect funny.

Did an aggot write this for you?

aggot literally agreed to boycott this board, all together, because they were getting picked on after showing up in this conference and running their mouths at everybody, and then falling on their faces.
Go back to bed, you're drunk.

The only thing weird is the dumb takes. "OU is Texas's ride-along cheerleader" give me a fricking break.

Nobody in the SEC has fallen for more aggot drivel than Alabama. They lap it up like a kitten at a milk saucer. Everybody else in the SEC has seemed to figure out aggot over time here but them. They repeat aggot drivel chapter and verse, and now they're here trying to act like aggot's protective older brother like fools. It's like they need a little lovable loser sidekick to pal around with. I truly don't get it.

Are Bama fans getting nervous another loss to OU is coming ? I don’t care about your feelings …. OU is here for to make everyone’s life hell . Maybe we can knock you out of playoffs again.

I love the SEC.

The road trips are amazing. The venues are iconic.

As an old guy, I loved the old Big 8, but road trips to Ames, Manhattan, Stillwater and Lincoln were awful.

Ditto. We have been to all but 2 SEC campuses and we have been treated well at all of them. Being old and cordial probably has something to do with it.

You left out the worst campus in the Big 8-Larryville kansas. Burn that MF down!

Would have been better off with teams like Clemson, FSU, Miami, maybe Ga Tech. In other words, take football schools in the Southeast that really don’t belong in the ACC.

Come on, none of these schools move the needle on TV viewership.

I hate them, but adding Texas and OK was a defensive / keep-away-from-the-B1G move by Sankey. They allowed the SEC to corner the market on must-see CFB. Unless you live in B1G country nobody gives a rat's arse about their product. The same with the ACC and it's only going to be more pronounced over time.

The only potential problem I see is SEC win-loss records are going to look worse overall going to 9 conference games since there aren't many, if any, cupcakes in the SEC. The B1G honks will try to use this as ammo to undermine how many playoff spots we get.

If it happens I hope Sankey has something up his sleeve to address it. We'll find out this year and next.

fact, not long ago the Austin American Statesman ran a story about the same. So clearly many did care. Maybe you are just oblivious.

Are you dumb or you just chose not to read everything else in what I said?

Anyways, losing that game has nothing to do with specifically caring about Texas Tech. You could insert any team into that role and losing the game that kept you from a national championship will piss you off.

I just did, and it appears you lost so much of it that you had to remove your favorite team from your handle.

They have better TV contracts as well.

I truly believe that the current SEC will eventually fracture.

Nah. The SEC will eat this contract and then squeeze network balls hard (with ratings in hand) and set the market.

I do agree with you on certain B1G jobs being more attractive due to an easier path to the playoffs.

Everyone's mentioning Drink in connection with openings at Flordia and Penn State. As a Mizzou fan I fear losing him to Penn State FAR more than to Florida even though Florida has won multiple national championships since Penn State has. And it has all to do with easier B1G schedules.

Before the season Drink said this is his most talented roster - and he's right. He could assemble an even stronger roster in the next two years and go 6-6 with some of our future conference slates. Just look at 2027. Then look at Penn State's. Any coach could look at it and say, "Eff it. I'm getting paid either way" and take the easier path.

A lot of interest in the team and program from Texas fans. Many made the journey to Lexington over the weekend. Hopefully, they enjoyed a good time even though the game kind of sucked.
