Never understood why people laugh at those additions. They took the four best G5 programs available. We’ve already seen that model work with TCU and Utah being elevated. They could easily replicate the success of those two now that they will have considerably more money to work with going forward.

I want to answer honestly and not come off as an a-hole, here.

The big east tried the same thing by promoting Louisville, USF and Cinci and the big east football is no more.

It’s not a bad statement on these programs. It’s an indicator of a very sick p5 conference that will die soon.

It could have found a way to make the following 16-team league work.

BigPacWest——-
Oregon
Washington
Stanford
Cal
Arizona
ASU
Wsu
OreSt

BigPacEast——-
Baylor
Tcu
OkState
Colorado
Utah
KSU
Kansas
Texas tech

Now you’re going to be stuck with the big12 bringing go5s and the pac will bring in go5s too.

Could have had an all p5 league.

There is a reason the sec isn’t adding UCF And Houston. We don’t need them. The big12 does because it’s dying.

People would actually watch txAM vs Ole Miss.

Do you think anyone will tune in to

Oregon vs SDSU?
Ok State Vs Houston?

Okstate is 19th in Tv viewership (big Texas alumni) and throws SEC type money into our facilities and now we’ll have visiting fans that dress up like Fat Joe for tailgates. bullshite.

Big 10 will almost certainly add Oregon and Washington unless 1 of these things happens.

1. The state legislature doesn’t allow it.
2. There is a shift back to more regional conferences (I hope this happens but doubt it).

It will happen eventually

- SuperConfrences
- Paying players
- injuries

Then between WW I and WW II they started dealing with the issues and the ACC / SEC / SWC got spun out and the NCAA stepped up about professional vs non professional.

It seems pretty clear we will eventually move to 7-8 team divisions in a larger conference (20-24 teams) just like the NFL. Those 7-8 teams will be regional and play the majority of their games against each other.

Big 12 is going to get the four corner schools. I still have to believe that at least Oregon and Washington, probably with Stanford, end up in the Big Ten. Then the PAC leftovers will backfill with the best bits of the MWC.

I agree with this. Although it will be really funny seeing Colorado crawl back.

Big 12 will become new best of g5 conference.

If that’s the case we’re gonna need to come up with a better name than “G5”

Can anybody dig up an old thread about when TCU joined the big 12? I wonder if people were laughing about it back then.

It seems up in the air on this board. 50% think the ACC is done.
50% think the ACC tv deal has them in the catbird seat.

I don’t know either

Me too. But it will be a long time unless these super conferences divide regionally, quickly. But then you’ll have the sec guys complaining that the Deep South division will get beat up over the year.

Not even close. kU is only popular with people who enjoy basketball. KSU is far more popular in KS than KU is lol.

One school needs money from tax payers and their own endowment pool to fund their stadium renovations.

The other can raise that money through donations and doesn't need the states assistance to be relevant in today's landscape.

It has always been anti South from the start. Tulane, GT, UNC, and Duke were later. UGA is better than several actual AAU schools but GT was the "research" of the two.

While splitting up the different academic disciplines among three state schools initially helped them all, it did eventually hurt UGA as far as research funding goes, especially not having the medical school as well as the engineering funds being siphoned off to GT. However, in recent decades, the biomolecular research at UGA has exploded, and plenty of research done via the vet school and the ag sector (mainly chickens) has brought in some big chunks of change. Those labs are just not as front and center as at some schools. Its still small engineering program also is forming some profitable ties to big firms like Siemens.

big 12 aleady picked up 4 schools... anything else now its just gravy they are still easily the 3rd best conference.
Say what?

There's no question the SEC and Big 10 are 1-2 in whatever order. I see the ACC as a clear #3; you have Clemson and Fla State having made the playoffs. Miami and probably Va Tech both carry enough name-value, if they can revive, they're candidates too.

Big 12 gives you, what- a bunch of cinderella-type teams? They COULD make it, but like this year, you have to have things fall right.

The ACC is a dumpster fire after Clemson and FSU + UNC - those other schools have minimal value

Miami is private and can’t even sell out 50% given their stadium and campus issues

I was in the group that thought Baylor was in the wrong and TCU was the better fit. Personally I would put Rice above both but mainly for the academics.

Rice > TCU > Baylor

Name the Big 12 program equal to Clemson or Fla State.
You can't, because there isn't one.

Now, using the same logic you applied- take the top 2-3 teams off the Big 12, and convince me the remainder isn't ALSO a dumpster fire. Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas?

ACC, you at least have Clemson, Fla State, Va Tech, UNC, Wake Forest, Miami if they can get things right, Pitt has shown signs of life, Louisville (as the 8th team? That ain't bad).

I'm not saying the ACC is comparable to the SEC, but Clemson alone elevates them above the Big 12 as it will be.
