How many teams claim a championship in a year where they are ineligible for post-season play? I hope they name James Madison as champion this year if they go undefeated. How does this compare to UCF's claim title in 2017?

That isn't so. According to ncaa.com the 1983 champion is Miami, and the 1994 champion is Nebraska.

Is this kinda like when the guy who did Alabama’s media guide decided on his own to claim an additional five national championships for the Crimson Tide back in the 80s?

Don’t deflect. Auburn claims an NC for a team that couldn’t play in the postseason or on TV because of NCAA sanctions. They’ve done it twice now.
