Yeah, but lsu does this to supplement an already extremely talented team that we have. Ole miss lives (and mostly dies) by it. We aren't worried about being number 1 in the transfer portal lol. We are worried about being number 1 when it really counts, after the final whistle of the season is blown. We win titles at lsu. Ole miss doesn't win shite and never will.

You don't seem to be worried about that anymore, to be honest.

Sure we are. That will never change. Always chasing the next one...and it will come. That's what LSU is all about.

To me the metric that matters is the talent composite, not the recruiting rankings either from the portal or from regular recruiting.

How much talent do you have on your roster each year, who cares where you got it from

In the past, the "age" of the talent mattered a lot, so if you had a team of juniors and seniors with a bit less talent, they could overperform. That's less predictive now with they way talent moves. Those juniors you have are much more likely to be new to your team and while they have a bit of physical development they don't know your scheme any better than a freshman does.

I think we're going to see a lot more seasons like this one where talent doesn't equal consistency... but you'll still end up seeing the most talented teams coming together late and making the most waves in the playoff.

I wouldn't be shocked if the final 4 teams in the playoff consist of some combination of the following teams:

UGA, OSU, Texas, Clemson, Oregon, ND and PSU.

All of them are in the top 11 of the talent composite for 247. All of them are comfortably above 50% on the blue chip ratio.

Yeah, you're mostly right. I wouldn't go so far and say that it DOESNT matter where you get your talent from bc I see a guy being in your system and being developed as being more valuable than a mercenary that you go get for 1 season to fill a need. Thats my opinion. It's all about finding the right pieces to the puzzle no matter where you get them but another huge thing is having a culture, and that is built by having a backbone of players in a system that have already been there and done that to teach the next guy up how it is.

Yeah he copied and pasted half of this year's playoff teams into next season's bracket, lol. I get what he's trying to say though.

Not a huge limb, no.

The reality though is there are 7 teams above the "blue chip ratio" minimum of 50%.

That means 5 of them are below that ratio and have no real chance of winning a national championship. Ole Miss was also well below that ratio. While they had a shot of MAKING the playoff, they had no national title chance. With longer playoffs, a lack of talent indicated by missing that ratio becomes a bigger deal, not a smaller one. Instead of winning 2 games to win a title in the playoff, you have to win 3 or 4. It's like with the NCAA basketball tournament. Underdogs win some early round games, but the teams in the final 4 are all loaded with blue chips.

The only thing that makes it a bit of a limb this year is that I was talking about the final four, and only of those brackets has PSU, SMU and Boise State. PSU has to win that or a team below the blue chip ratio thresh hold will make the final 4 teams.

Was actually talking about this year.

The point is that while nearly half the field this year didn't have a 50% blue chip ratio, when we narrow it down to four teams I expect most if not all of the teams (3 or 4) to be above the 50% line.

And I expect that every year going forward.

The only reason it might be 3 this year is the Boise state part of the bracket. I don't think we'll ever have a team with less than 50% blue chips actually win the title.

If Ole Miss wins their bowl, they will have had 10 or more wins 3 of the last 4 years.
