Don’t overestimate how seriously everyone takes your ranking.

3 paragraphs convincing yourself LSU is #2 says it all.

Would you rank UConn ahead of Kansas all time in basketball since they've won more titles?

We should be #2 behind LSU. As far as I'm concerned, LSU earned the #1 spot this season.

Maybe, but it's too simplistic to rank LSU ahead of Texas based solely on NCs. CWS appearances have to matter as well. Texas has a much longer history of success than LSU.

I'm damn proud of our baseball history but I gotta give it to LSU for not only more titles, but they have been a far better baseball program recently. that stuff matters.
then again it's only one man's opinion.

33. Auburn (25/6/0)- 71.8
35. Missouri (22/6/1)- 70.1
38. Alabama (28/5/0)- 65.8

So Alabama has 3 more tournament appearances but 1 less CWS appearance than Auburn… and is thus 6 points behind Auburn.

But Missouri has 3 less tournament appearances but an actual national title to Auburn’s 0… and is also behind Auburn.

What convoluted system is this?

It's a tough call, but putting LSU ahead of Texas is like ranking UConn basketball ahead of Kentucky. It's a bit of a stretch.

It’s the “Little Brother tries too hard” special system that requires “trust me bro” to understand.

But LSu has been dominant since 1990s. LSU is the standard bearer of college baseball and has been for decades. They are the best college baseball program.

Playing devil's advocate, that makes LSU's success more impressive to me.

Texas has appeared in the CWS almost twice as much yet LSU has managed to win 2 more natties.

LSU has won the whole thing 8 out of the 20 times they've appeared.

USC has been even more impressive, in the past.

My only point is an all time ranking doesn’t matter to really anyone. We all value what we see and experience a lot more than what we read about.

I grew up in the 90s and wouldn’t trade places with any other fan base.

Also, I think Omaha is a blast. Making it there is awesome. Winning it is 1,000x that. This ranking method undervalues winning.

Fair enough. My top 3 all-time would be:

1. Texas
2. LSU
3. USC

This is hilarious. In no universe is 6 titles better than 12, but some ignorant people want it to be so. Probably the same people arguing for common core math.

If USC wanders the wilderness for another 2 decades and LSU can get within 25% of the total titles, maybe you could argue LSU as #1 all time. Texas is 4 titles away from even being in the conversation.

CWS appearances and NCAA tournament appearances have to factor into the rankings as well. Any formula would have to include more than one metric.

I would like to see USC become great again, but I'm afraid the program is too far gone.

Not when they have 50% more titles than the next closest program. Any attempt to make a formula where they aren’t #1 is just intellectual dishonesty. We aren’t talking about 1 or 2 titles difference, we’re talking about 4 from the next closest program. They are closer to Texas and LSU’s combined titles (14 combined vs USC’s 12) than LSU is to theirs (12 vs 8). This isn’t rocket science.

If this were MLB, there would be absolutely zero debate between a team with 12 World Series wins and one with 8 or 6. How many times you won your division or conference wouldn’t matter at all. USC is the best baseball program of all time and LSU needs to win 2 more NCs to start a realistic debate.

I agree, you only use things like CWS appearances when higher qualifiers are really close.

Did you not read the part about recency being weighted more heavily?

Mizzou hasn’t reached the CWS in over 60 years. When they won their national title in 1954, they played Lafayette, UMass, and Rollins College. This is not the same as the gauntlet it takes to win a title today. Nor is it the same as making the CWS. Mizzou went straight to Omaha that season without playing any regional or super regional games despite having a loss that year to Fort Leonard Wood and beating teams like Sedalia Air Force Base.

This should not score the same as a modern day trip to Omaha.
