Let me clarify. Keeping the frats in check I agree with. But UA has threatened to reduce access to regular students, which I am against.

Do you want fans or do you want supporters? This is how you develop and reward supporters. Fans come and go as the wind blows.

I would be opposed to making the student section smaller. There are already way more students than tickets.

However, I am all for finding creative ways to get the 16K kids out of 39K who want to be there access to be there. If you want to not show up or leave at halftime of a close game, you should have lower access priority than a fellow student who wants to be there the whole game. I have zero problem with that.

This has nothing to do with frats.

That's not happening here.

I am not talking about this specific article. UA has been tweaking this for years. Keeping the frats from gaming the system. Fine. Trying to stop resale. Great idea. But students aren't there just for football. It is about their college experiance. Stop fricking with them. They are paying out the arse to attend college. Just expect a % of them to leave each game.

Except other students want to go and be there the whole game. The people getting fricked are students who don't get access because older students want to show up for 45 mins and then leave and go to the bar.

I'm totally fine with a merit system there. No problem with it whatsoever. If they were just taking away student tickets so Joe Blow from Boaz could go? No, that's not something I think is fair at all. Taking a ticket from a junior who leaves midway through the 2nd to give to a sophomore who wants to get there early, sit low and stay most of the game? I got no issues with that.

Yeah, it's a blanket policy that will inadvertently hit the "loyal" kids visiting mom and dad back home during a cupcake week. They'll lose points and subsequently position. Same with the kid who is sick, hungover, emergency, work/job etc.

quote:

For instance, it created a penalty system where points are docked from a student’s Action card if he or she chooses not to use a ticket, which could hinder the ability to purchase postseason tickets.

Students can also lose points if they have a ticket to a football game and don’t use it.

Nope, they just click one button and donate it. No penalty at all. It's easy as pie and takes 5 seconds (and that policy has been around for years and is far from unique to Alabama).

The penalty comes if you say you are using it and then waste it. And with it being as easy as it is to donate them and others wanting to use, it should be.

Do they usually donate it? I'm unfamiliar with the procedures of it. Guessing it's done on phone/computer?

Yes from what I know from siblings most do. It's on your "account" on the website/app and you just click a button and it donates it back to the student ticket pool.

They can donate or sell their ticket so they won't have to incur the penalty. If the ticket is no longer on your card, you can't get penalized for not using it.

Straight from the "game is over now it is time to get drunk in a place that hopefully has a lot of girls with whom I can hopefully socialize with" group.

That was the group that I was in, and like it or not, that's the group that many football-going college students are in.

Today's students don't care about attending football games. All forms of attendance are cratering

Forcing behavior at a voluntary event won't work

No point system will keep frat daddies from the potential to get with hot srats

Wouldn't the answer be to schedule better teams to play against? Duke in football? Come on...

What conference should we move to? We've been blowing out most conference opponents just as easily as most of our non-conference opponents.

Also, we didn't pick Duke.

Saban should pull an Oprah.

Wait till 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter against one of their September cupcakes whom they're beating 70-3. Then, have it announced over the intercom that anyone left In the student section gets a free Dodge Charger.
