... Bama obviously doesn't have any legal staff.

Serious question. How can Bama afford it if they can't afford to build a 10,000 seat basketball arena at this time?

Who said they couldn’t? Is it wise to move forward on construction of a large project that had a certain amount budgeted, which is now as much as 40% higher?

There are some things we can't afford NOT to do

We make the rules anyway, what are they gonna do about it, right?

The following comments have nothing to do with Bama. They are focused on the transformation of college sports from amateurism to professionalism.
Learfield is provided swank offices on the campus of UA and direct access to the athletes 24*7 to act as their agent for commercials, etc. in other words, a satellite office. Is that what’s going on here?
Sports agents have had access to Bama players for years, but I’m not clear on what the joint venture is and would think it could have implications to the nonprofit status of the athletic department. They should consider providing a similar satellite office arrangement for a financial planning firm complete with CPAs to help with tax planning.

Do you think it's fiscally wise to build a new coliseum at a time when current costs are now 30%-40% over the original construction budget?

Alabama has recently completed, in the middle of construction or about to start $806 million of athletic and academic buildings.
Not an issue.

kinda sad that college sports has to build a massive state of the art facility simply to house the staff that's in charge of paying the players and providing them endorsement deals.

Whatever Saban does, like sheep, the rest of the SEC will copy in a year or two....kinda sad.

Kirby will be doing this soon.
Ours was built out a year ago. They have an office downtown in a historic building they gutted and renovated, I peeked in the windows, it is pretty swank.
But not like this nightmare from Twin Peaks this Bama space looks like.
